WE ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED FOR THE WINTER SEASON AND WILL REOPEN ON SATURDAY...

WE ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED FOR THE WINTER SEASON AND WILL REOPEN ON SATURDAY 13TH FEBRUARY 2016. IF YOU ARE A GROUP OR SCHOOL WE CAN ARRANGE SPECIALISED VISITS DURING OUR CLOSED SEASON. Ripon Museums host the trio of the Workhouse Museum, The Prison & Police Museums and Ripon's Courthouse Museum. These museums interpret the history of Law and order and Social Justice through the 18th Century and beyond in Ripon and Yorkshire. Discover how the poor were treated, what the inmates word, what the inmates ate and the hard labour that the paupers and vagrants undertook during their stay at the Workhouse. Become a school pupil in a Victorian classroom See the Collection of Police memorabilia and Victorian punishments in the old Liberty Prison. The Courthouse museum is a fine example of a Georgian building with costumes and props associated with the Victorian legal profession. Family activities during holidays are a great way for the children to be engaged with the history of the buildings and the stories of the past. Suitable for school visits with a comprehensive learning programme offered to teachers and group leaders alike. Annual Passes are available for unlimited repeat visits to all museums - a great value way to explore all 3 sites and return for special exhibitions and events!

Very interesting and educational. Really does show how hard life was for the have not's. Can thin of a number of people who should visit here so they appreciate exactly how easy their lives are now. Good value for money as well as you can get this, the Police and Prison museum and the court museum all for £12.00 and... More

Feel a bit of a fraud but... on a Monday afternoon I run a Stitch Knit and Natter group (and don't we natter!!!) All the ladies that attend speak to visitors of the museum and show them what and how they make items that sell in the Workhouse shop. Most important is how to make a rag rug, visitors can... More

This was the third place to visit as part of our trilogy, having already been to the Courthouse and Police Museum - as an individual museum they all have so much interest and when you rate all 3 they are an excellent attraction. This particular museum had a lot of sadness due to the difficult working environment - many families... More

Well worth a visit. A look back in time or maybe in to the future, Victorian values and all of that. It would seem that they are expanding also to make the attraction even greater which is always good news.

Part of a group of three museums in Ripon, the workhouse gives an insight into the hard times which faced those unable to support themselves in days gone by, without 'dumbing down' or dressing up what it really would have been like. This is a self guided tour with clear way markers, informative displays and authentic artefacts. You start the... More

Buy the three ticket option but the court house although nice doesn't take five minutes. The police/jail is the most interesting of the three and gets five stars. The workhouse is good and worth the visit.

We were staying nearby and the three museums in Ripon attracted us. Unfortunately, we were only able to visit the Workhouse Museum. It is a self-guide tour with links to your smart phone. The Museum is fitted with a lift for impaired mobility visitors. Various rooms are laid out as they would have been when it was in use. There... More

The Workhouse is one of three museum's in Ripon and you can buy a ticket that covers visits to all of them. We started at the Workhouse as it was open in the morning where as the other two opened later in the afternoon. Friendly welcome and we were shown how we could get an audio tour by logging on... I took my 12 year old and my 8year old, very good visual museum to how things really were and the quiz gets them thinking and involved so much information and they loved it bought the family pass for £26 and did all three museums and went back again to show dad who had missed it great place
