Ripon Cathedral traces its history back to its foundation by St Wilfrid in 672AD. The Anglo-Saxon crypt of St Wilfrid's church remains and is open to visitors. Choral evensong takes place Tuesday to Friday at 6pm and Sundays at 5.30pm. Details of all services may be found on our website. We are open to visitors daily throughout the year and entry is free, though we rely on generous donations to continue this practice. Most of the building is wheelchair accessible with the exception of the Library and the Anglo-Saxon crypt. There is a touch-screen computer interpretation of the crypt at ground level for those unable to access it.

The cathedral was most welcoming, free to visit and fascinating - especially the choir stalls and the hand that used to conduct.

Stunning place amazing architecture and fascinating artifacts. Well worth a visit. The choir was in practice when we visited so the whole experience was beautiful and quite overpowering in a good way. :)

Saw the building traveling further on so decided to stop off on our return and found it easily. Very interesting bronze sculptures by Harrold Gosney of York. Helpful laminated information sheet of items inside and leaflets in several languages for foreign visitors. A narrow staircase...More

This is an unusual cathedral, because, by definition, it's in a small city. Hugely impressive it towers over all other buildings. There are fine monuments but the overall winner is the incredibly fine carving of the choir stalls. They must have taken the master craftsman...More

A beautiful cathedral and a very pleasant visit. Often, and by their very nature, cathedrals and minsters can be quite cold and poorly lit places, but Ripon is the complete opposite, it was warm and welcoming in all senses of the words. Admittance is free...More
