Piece of history, worth finding it if you're walking in the area. Would recommend wearing walking shoes or even boots.

We walked up from Rowsley so no parking problems....but must admit not easy to find when entering the wood but worth the visit

We always walk up to Stanton Moor when we camp at nearby Birchover. It's a gorgeous spot and the Stone Circle is a bonus. A bit smaller than Stonehenge (!) but worth a visit for the lovely surroundings.

This place is still special. But it is heavily visited & it shows. I do wish people would treat places with respect & leave no foot print...fire pits, drinks cans or offerings. The large quarry is a contrast of mans destruction of the natural environment...More

Hard to find start on Lees road but the straightforward once on trail. About 1.5 miles there and back from road layby managed it easily with 3yo and 6yo. 4 stars if it's your thing.

The closest you can get is 10-15 minutes walk on uneven ground.

No. It's fenced around. I can't recall any animals at all.
