Coughton Court has been home to the Throckmorton family for 600 years, this finest of Tudor houses stands testament to a family's courage in maintaining their beliefs. From a position of high favour to one of fear and oppression post-Reformation, the Throckmortons were leaders in a dangerous age, helping to bring about Catholic emancipation in the 19th century.

Explore this story of fascinating personalities through the 'family album' of portraits and Catholic treasures around the house. Coughton is still very much a family home with an intimate feel: the Throckmorton family live here, managing the stunning gardens which they have created.

A lovely place for an Easter Egg hunt. Well organised and easy to follow. Despite having a power cut, staff were fabulous keeping everything going and even cold and hot food and drinks were still available and delicious. Well worth going to.

A beautiful property with a series of pretty gardens to walk through and a bluebell wood - at the right time of year. Lovely walks off site too . We didn't visit the house as our teen and near teen boys were not keen. Café well stocked with delicious cakes and amazing smelling food- sad we packed a picnic!

It was a beautiful Saturday when we revisited for the first time in years. It was crowded in the catering courtyard but the house was still on 'free flow' and wasn't too bad at all. There is quite a lot to see and it is very interesting, especially the family's connection to the Gunpowder Plot. We listened to a fascinating... More

After retiring and receiving a gift of national trust membership,my husband and I decided our first trip would be to Coughton Court. We enjoyed our walk around the gardens and grounds and the house was very interesting to visit. As a treat we had decided to have lunch and afternoon tea and cake here. Mistake. We queued for 25 minutes... More

Coughton Court was the home of the Thockmortons, 7 members of the family being involved in the Gunpowder Plot and most of whom were executed for their involvement. The house does not dwell too greatly on this, but you do see a number of Priests' holes around the property, a characteristic of houses owned by devout catholics at the time.... More

Stoped off here during a long road trip. Had an enjoyable walk around the house and gardens, which has a fascinating history. Unfortunately, we went into the cafe at 2.45pm and stood in a queue for 20 minutes. When I tried to order soup I was told the kitchen stoped serving at 3pm. I pointed out that we had been... More

What a great little find. A very friendly welcome and a car park just next to the main areas. The house is delightful. It's not enormous and all the better for it. It has a lovely feel about it. There were talks outside regularly throughout the day. Plenty of places to sit and enjoy the tulips. The walled garden is... More

We came here for a walk around the garden and ended up spending the whole day here. The walled garden and bog garden are excellent. The house is really interesting and we enjoyed the 20 minutes 600 years of history talk before walking around the house. They offer a number of good paths through the adjoining country side and around... More

We popped her today and really loved it! The gardens are great for toddlers to run around in with games to play both grass with and animals to see too. The changing facilities are great! Space for you to nurse, nappies and even wipes (incase you have forgotten). The cafe was inexpensive and cakes really great. You can also take... More
