We've been touring throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland trying to find a castle to actually visit. Everything was a ruin or private property till Carrickfergus! Don't miss the audio visual historical presentation before your self-guided tour. A good way to spend a couple of hours made even better cause the sun came out!

Expensive to get in at £5 each, but the castle itself is interesting. Not a must see but an easy way to spend an hour. Car parking in the harbor car park is free and the local cafe good value. Sainsbury's is next door for the self caterers.

I had a great time here. I spent a while in the shop / tourist centre. I must say that the staff in there are stellar. Very welcoming and friendly, they make you feel happy to be there. The castle is the real deal. The histories of the place run from seiges to tales of prisoners escaping down a rope... More

While by no means a "must see," this might be worth a brief pit stop if driving from Northern Ireland into Ireland with kids in tow. The price of admission is reasonable (£5 adults, £3 kids), and there is a very inexpensive paid parking lot almost across the street. Pretty, if somewhat industrial views. Having said that, the castle itself... More

Arrived around 9.30. Bought two tickets from a helpful member of staff on the desk who gave us a map and some directions. Would have probably taken a guided tour but all the guides were booked up at the time. An impressive early medieval castle with fantastic views from the battlements out over Belfast lough on a clear day. Almost... More

Gorgeous castle with lots to see inside. Great location and talks within the space to learn about what it would have been like back in the day.

The situation of the castle is unique, you can still see some of the outer walls of the castle in the town. The castle itself is very historic, it dates back to the 17th century. The history is excellent its not to be missed, & its very much intact. Carrickfergus itself is one of the most excavated towns in Ulster.... More

Really enjoyed our visit to the castle. Fairly priced entry, nice little info centre and very interesting history. Best part was the 'keep'. Definitely recommend (we had 3yr old with us).
