Due to the military impenetrability of this castle the town of Carrickfergus long thrived even when surrounding villages suffered defeats.

Excellent visitor attraction with reasonably priced entrance fee, friendly staff and short guided tour included. Allow at least one and a half hours to see it all.

A beautiful place to visit. Very peaceful and historic. Quaint streets and lovely eateries. Easy and free parking.

A small but historically interesting castle, being largely unchanged from its original Norman form. However, the presentation can only be described as tacky, with cartoonish painted manikins and murals lurking round every corner. Really needs to be stripped back and cleaned up. Still worth seeing.

I can also highly recommend the Ulster folk museum mentioned above but make sure you give enough time.... it's massive but we'll worth it. A really good day out for all.
