My wife and I used to go quite a lot as there was a really nice café there, craft demos and the arboretum was just fabulous. We used to cycle from Llandeilo thro Ffairfach and on the "lower road" towards Llanarthe but about three years ago the college that owns the land, over which to gain access, closed and blocked... Beautiful and tranquil woodland walks with great views across the Towy Valley. Open on weekends and all free of charge. Many thanks to Golden Grove Trust who are working hard to save and renovate the mansion and arboretum which will re-open to the public.

I visited this country park as I had seen the signposts for it. Lovely woodland walks but keep a close eye on your dog, my dog had a lovely time but when i arrived home he had a red rash on his stomach, legs and chest, by the morning it had turned into yellow infected spots, got advice from vet,... Great walks, wonderful paths and picnic areas. Superior views of the valley up and down the river Towy. Picturesque dells, streams waterfalls, ponds and deer park all easily accessible. Could get lost for hours on various routes. Disappointed the café has gone, the arboretum is closed to the public and house is no longer accessible. Still great peaceful uninterrupted short... More

Hope this place opens up soon. If this is the intentions of the renovator?! It was a beautiful walk, with lovely tea rooms and small children's park. Hopefully the renovation won't make the park too commercialised and keep the majority of natural beauty. Miss this place, sad it is closed. But all we can do is wait and see.

We followed the numerous signs directing us to the country park, and saw several cars in the car park and people unloading dogs. On arrival it is like one of those scary abandoned theme parks. the cafe building is closed and shuttered, the children's play area is boarded up and covered in orange netting, the stately home has large signs... I drove past with the intention of having my doggie shave a good walk in the park, on the way to Aberglassney Gardens, where doggies are not allowed. I could not even find a way of getting in, though some reviewers have suggested that you can still walk in a restricted part of the park. Today I have read that... More

To repeat the last two comments, this park is CLOSED, despite the plentiful brown tourist attraction road signs directing towards it. Apparently it has been sold, and the current owners have signs discouraging public access, so don't waste your time by trying to find it.

Sadly went to visit this previously lovely country park today only to find it closed up and public access denied. What a waste as it used to be lovely. It would be a good idea to remove the public sign posts on the road if this is a permanent arrangement. Reading reviews on this site it appears to no longer... More

People wanted to visit Gelli Aur should be aware that it is now closed to the public. We tried to visit but found the gate closed and marked 'no public access.' There are plenty of road signs to the park, so it's very misleading. Some people park nearby and walk past the gate but we decided not to take the... More
