Our last day of a long weekend with little time and too rainy to walk to the castle. But the house was very interesting with knowledgeable and friendly National Trust volunteers. Would have liked to do some walks there and look at the ruined (Welsh rather than English built) castle. We hope to go back for another visit at some point when back in that area of Wales.

I visit the estate regularly and love going to the castle and estate to walk the dogs and see the views.
The Christmas market was lovely, with lots of small local businesses. The entry price was very steep at £10pp.
The issue with the Christmas market is that they created a car park in one of the fields due to the volume of people attending. I was in a queue for the best part of an hour waiting for a space to park. The vast number of volunteers were utterly useless and I think it would have been easier and quicker if none of them were there. They could have had signs and marked out the spaces.
The temporary car park is further away than the normal car park which is about a 15 minute walk up to the house. They did provide a shuttle of minibuses if you cannot do this walk.

The local nobility invested in the house some 200+ years ago on an area once visited by the romans. Good to spend 2 hours or more learning the local history.

£9 entrance fee with no reduction for O.A.P.s.

Lovely afternoon spent here, paid to visit house which had fascinating exhibition upstairs, staff were very helpful and gave us directions for scenic route to Castle which was well worth the walk, throughly enjoyed our time there.

Not one of the NTs better assets, the house is dull and of little interest but the grounds are fine.

Lovely grounds and surrounding park land. Enjoyed a lovely walk up to the castle and the views were stunning.
The downside is that you can’t go in to the cafe without paying (£9 each) to enter the house. The full menu is not available through the hatch if you have to sit outside. Very disappointing.

We enjoyed exploring the castle which has stunning views. It is free and quite extensive. We liked the special cattle in their shed. We went to the cafe with its tasty food. Newton House was disappointing. We had National Trust membership so it was free. A paying visitor would have felt cheated. The curators had clearly made an effort with the displays but the house needed refurbishment and most of its contents had been lost.

What a great place and so dog friendly, happy
To have dogs in downstairs rooms so you can tour the house, staff so friendly and cafe was lovely. We walked some of the grounds but went on a terrible rainy day so cut short the visit. Would definitely visit here again
