Enchanted place with medieval atmospheres. The hotel is inside the castle which in turn is located inside a perfectly preserved medieval village. The rooms are beautiful and well looked after.
The restaurant, in my opinion, is the strong point, quality cuisine with highly qualified staff.
A tip: when you book it is a good idea to specify that you want a room right inside the castle as the structure also has rooms outside the manor which logically cost less; however, these are places always located in the ancient village and are more than decent.

Beautiful medieval village. A jump into the past. Very well kept clean and tidy. The activities were all closed given the post-New Year period, but we were able to admire a beautiful mechanical nativity scene, realistic and with attention to detail. Perhaps the most beautiful I've seen so far. Free entry with free donation. We will definitely return hoping to also visit the castle.

Beautiful medieval village with wonderful views over the hills above Salsomaggiore Terme. When we went there it wasn't at all busy, but judging by the size of the car parks outside the village I guess it could get very popular. Some friends went on Monday and said they were the only people there. Restaurants available for you fuel up in. Not sure how else you could get there other tan by car, but we did spot a few bus stops on the narrow windy roads!

The battlements of the Castle protect the village of Vigoleno, between Parma and Piacenza, a must see! The visit consists of a free part, where you visit the 4 floors, and a guided tour to admire the private rooms, you listen to the very interesting history of the castle and above all you access the private theater, with only 12 seats, with attention to detail. Disturbing torture room, but the times were those....A special applause to our young Guide!

The reasons why it was erected were certainly defensive.
The entire complex is in fact located in a transition area between Parma and Piacenza. The Castle could therefore be used as a military support base. Its position was extremely tactical for commercial purposes, because it was close to Liguria and Salsomaggiore, places where salt was sold.
The interiors will enchant you and the small theater is truly fascinating!

The village of Vigoleno has the great quality of taking the visitor back to the Middle Ages. Few houses gathered around the castle but it is more than enough to have an immersive experience in the past. Really well kept and especially beautiful in autumn with the warm light of that season.

Beautiful setting with medieval walls, cobblestones and surroundings. Gorgeous views of the valleys. Easy to park and free parking, park just outside the castle walls and walk through the arch. Depending on where you’re coming from, the roads can be quite bendy but it’s worth the visit. Make sure you eat in Vigoleno. The local wines are very nice.

If you're in the area drop in and walk around this pretty little castle. The views are the castle are stunning. Check the opening times of the tower as on weekdays during the summer the tower does not open until 2.00pm.

This is a beautiful old town. Really old. The streets are small and wind around. It’s up on a big hill so you get great views. There are a couple old churches. Really nice and not crowded at all.

If I arrive at Castelo di Vigoleno by car to stay in the hotel, where can I park my car? Is there any parking nearby?
Written 21 July 2019
Sorry for this late answer, I’ve been on holiday. Yes you can park your car on a square just 50 m from the hotel to unload your luggage, and then you have to park between 80 or 100 meters further from the square.

Written 24 May 2018
ci sono dei posti auto (pochi e non riservati) immediatamente fuori dal castello; il parcheggio esterno più alto è comunque molto vicino

How do I reach Vigoleno from Milan? Is it possible to get there with public transportation?
Written 13 February 2016
Hi Roland, you can reach Vigoleno from Milan, it's not far.
Ideally you should travel by car, as the Vigoleno Castle is situated in quite a remote hill and public transport links are not frequent. If you can afford it, hire a car from Milan for your trip.
Anyway, I did a quick google search and found out that there is public transportation passing outside the castle/village. Try google maps Milan - Castello Vigoleno, then select public transports.
Hope it helps.
Regards.
