- FatFairy06Rugby, United Kingdom11 contributionsWhat a peaceful place! We were staying in a cottage less than 5mins walk from the beach. What a find Borth-y-Gest is - so quiet & peaceful. We enjoyed walking around the little harbour & also up over the headland where you can sit and enjoy the view. We didn't see any of the previously mentioned sewage, so can't comment if the situation has been rectified. We had breakfast in the little cafe & can also recommend the Deli.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 May 2024
- DgtiffithsLittle Haywood, United Kingdom109 contributionsBeautiful spotWe visited on Bank Holiday Monday. Still plenty of parking. Such a beautiful spot. We walked from the village to the delightful coves of Pen y Banc Nature Reserve absolutely lovely. On the way back we popped in to the Church for coffee and a delightful slice of cake. Very much recommended .Open on Mondays.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 May 2024
- Emma J5 contributionsNice place to visit not for mobility challengedStayed at the haven sight. The caravan was deluxe with a double room and two twin rooms, and a veranda with French doors that had the sun all afternoon. The main room was spacious, the shower good power and the bed comfortable. The only complaint I had about the van was that the cleaning wasn’t up to standard and I had to clean all the work tops. The fridge-freezer had the last person’s food still in it! The caravans are mostly all up very steep hills so not for those with mobility problems. We did visit the pool but were told we only could use it for 45 mins( including changing time), which wasn’t enough. A must to do is go to the small privately owned cinema, with wonderful restaurant.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 May 2024

There is a main beach is the village which is good. We however decided to follow a shirt coastal path from near the village church. After a few minutes of walking we couldn’t believe our eyes. We stumbled across the most beautiful almost secret beaches & bays. You could walk from one to another on beautiful soft sand. Amazing & completely recommend.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 September 2024

I’ll start by saying there’s a lovely harbour and nice coves, with access to a nice looking beach.
However after my children were paddling in the water and keeping a eye on them I started to notice a number of suspicious looking objects floating passed. Some more poo looking than others. At 1st I thought it must be sticks, but as more time passed it was apparent it was human waste by the size and shape of it.
I did think it could of been someone doing something further up the beach in the water, but by this time, the amount of it, I concluded this would not have been the case.
I did walk further up the beach and found another stick like floating object and tried to confirm if it was indeed a stick by pressing it into the sea bed with my foot. Unfortunately it was no stick, and smeared / disintegrated on doing this…..
I have found on Google there is a sewage works in Porthmadog, possibly this is the source?
So a little disappointed on our find, but the actual coves and harbour was very nice.

Short walk from Porthmadog. Nice little village and small beach area. Nothing else there really. Only cafe was closed and it was sunny and July. If you drive there it’s £3.30 to park for up to six hours. Not sure what you could do for that long apart from walk to Porthmadog or Morgan Bychan. Disappointed

I’m so so annoyed. My dog has been very ill after we visited the cove. The tide was out and he jumped into the water. Next thing he couldnt get out because of a high shelf. He swallowed loads of jej ski sea water and has been really ill with gastro entiritis. Cost me a fortune in the vets and so many sleepless nights worrying. I love it there but cant go there again because of these idiots. such a shame

Nice day out with the dog, enjoyed the clean beach and friendly atmosphere. There are some nice little coves tucked away if you want to go for a walk up the cost. Cafe is closed during October Mon & Tues.

Beautiful quiet coastal pathway which is well maintained to the numerous little beaches, some tucked away and secluded. All very clean and dog friendly. Toilets in the car park and we paid £3.25 all day parking. Amazing afternoon.

Wonderful breakfast here. Try to pre book if you want a table outside (under canopy), as it’s very popular. Really lovely choice of breakfasts and great value too . They do lunch snacks and evening menus too .
Excellent service 🥰😊

What a lovely place, so peaceful and tranquil. We walked around the water and then through the wooded pathway to the beach. We were not equipped for the beach so didn't go down but it looked beautiful. Took a picnic and sat on the benches overlooking the bay. Plenty of place for free parking as well as a pay and display car park. My only complaint would be bins were overflowing so had to take our rubbish home

Hi,
I spent my childhood with my grandparents taking me to both y guest beeches. I am now 36 with children of my own. We would all like to go together including my 80 year old grandfather. Their mobility is very much demonised and are unsure if they could get on the beech anymore ( we remember the paths were very steep). Does anyone know if there disabled access has been created on the paths or they are still as steep.
Regards

The beaches/coves around Borth y Gest are accessible via the coastal path which can be challenging in places. Nearby Black Rock Sands (Morfa Bychan) is much flatter and you can even park your car on it!

Hi. We have just booked to stay in a cottage at borth y gest overlooking the cove. I've heard it can be dangerous on the beach from sinking sand. Our dog likes to run around on the beach will he be safe and are dogs allowed on all year round. Thanks

We took our dog on the beach in the village opposite the church in September and as far as we know it is dog friendly all year round and we never had a problem with sinking sand.
Written 9 February 2017
Are dogs allowed on the beach in peak season?
Written 30 July 2016
As far as I know they are not allowed on the beach during the summer.
