We arrived to to corolla 4x4 beach and instead of a cop being helpful he cussed us out and said “why are you even here in the rain”. We were trying to get to are beach house and he insisted on telling the rest of...More
The wild horses are SPECTACULAR to look at! The beachhouse is just a 1 min drive away from the beach. The outside-shower was a great idea! I could go on about how they thought of anything we could POSSIBLY need. The black hornets/ wasps and...More
Have stayed on the 4x4 only beach several times and never disappointed! This is an area that is accessible by 4 wheel drive only and is a good time! A few more visitors on the beaches this visit but everyone seems to be cool and...More
If you don’t mind being away from stores and shops it’s awesome. Not really that far from anything but the beach drive in and out is challenging. Overall fun experience. Lots of room on the beach for families, being able to take vehicles on the...More
Gosh! I almost hate to let people in on this sort of secretive spot. For me no trip to OBX would be complete without a ride up the coastline to Virginia.
Yes there are other people there, but because it is accessible only with 4wd,...More
Awesome family trip. Booked home on Twiddy on 4x4 beach. First we came with an AWD Acadia and I do NOT recommend it. Although the vehicle could navigate the sand the track and sand in between are too high and you will get stuck! It’s...More
We had a blast driving on the beach, enjoying the waves, and seeing the wild horses. Unlike anywhere we had ever been. Highly recommend taking a ride up to Carova in your 4x4, so glad we did it on our own instead of one of...More

Questionable depending how far back this road is....on the beach you should have no problem but when you go off the beach the sand can be unforgiving. We have had trouble in our four wheel drive truck with the loose sand and steep hills. We just returned from OBX ocean sands area and the beach still was not cleaned up from the storms. Lots of wood debris on the beach still.

We had no trouble finding the horses among the houses behind the dunes. As another response says be careful of the water holes as some are quite deep and will swamp your vehicle. A 4wheel drive is a must. If you are staying on the beach you have no worries about seeing the horses as early in the morning you will see them in your front (or back) yard and on the dunes. Also remember you are not allowed within 50 feet of them and yes there are horse police!
