Never have seen anything like that before
What a engineering treasure! We were lucky to observe 4 yachts coming up the locks and had and opportunity to talk to them meanwhile as it really takes some time. It was so interesting! Moreover, check for sharing bikes app in this region. We wanted to rent bikes but both the renting companies had no availabilities. Afterwards we found an e-bike sharing app in this region what enabled us to discover more around the canal.

    Feat of engineering
Very pretty walk up the canal but not as interesting when it's not in use. We enjoyed the Caledonian Canal in Fort Augustus a bit more. The mirrored art sculpture is cool. Free car park, very accessible.

    Another Telford masterpiece
A free car park leads to the wonderful feat of engineering from Thomas Telford the 8 locks of Neptunes staircase. We were lucky enough to see a small cruise ship the Lord of the Glens navigating the locks and appreciate the skill involved. Lovely to walk to the top flight and look across at Ben Nevis.

Nice view on a sunny day ?
Came on a groggy, wet day. On a nicer day I’m sure you would be able to see Ben Nevis. No Information boards on the lochs. Nice stop with free large car park.

Stopped here as part of a tour to see the locks.
They are good but having come from an area near locks many times larger in number(Devizes) it had to be put into perspective.
If not seeing any locks in a series I suppose it would be more interesting.

Neptune's Staircase, The Canal and the Old Boat of Caol. This is a stunning set of of canal gates with a cafe, at the bottom end is a railway crossing that, if you are there at the right time you will see the Hogwarts Express passing through, four times a day two going in and two coming out. If you look down the canal in the opposite direction to the gates, follow the left hand side down to Corpach where, on the beach of Loch Linnhe you will find a locally well know boat wreak called the "old boat of Caol". The is also a lovely Cafe at the Corpach Marina.

Great thing to see when in Fort William not far from the city centre and a cool thing to see when in the area. 100% worth a visit!

As the title says, lovely walk along the canal locks, clean views of the loch and ben nevis, as well as the steam train as it passes.

Nice to stroll along by the 8 lock gates, also timed it so we saw Jacobite steam train pass nearby. Staff answered my husband's questions and weather helped.
