I was so impressed with this place. We stayed at the Haven caravan site in the Easter holidays which is a 15-20 minute drive to Haverthwaite Station and as our boys love steam trains we thought it would be nice to take them on it. We caught the train to Lakeside and went on a boat on Lake Windermere. It... More

A great way to start your trip onto the boats on Windermere at Lakeside or as a short return journey if you are pushed for time. The Haverthwaite station has a Cafe, shop, play park and engine shed with a range of locomotives. The route itself takes around 20 minutes to Lakeside where you can take the boat to Bowness... More

We recently combined a Family trip on the railway with a boat trip on Lake Windermere, and can't talk highly enough of our day out. The cruiser docks adjacent the train station at Lakeside, leaving you with a short walk to transfer to the train. Whilst the journey to Haverthwaite Station is not an overly long one, it does offer... More

A pleasant little trundle along the valley, with a good connection to the Windermere ferries and a bus onwards (eventually) at the other. We used this line as part of our journey home from the Lake District: boat from Ambleside, then the train, then a bus to fill in the gap to the 'other railway' at Ulverston, and onwards. The... Spent a lovely afternoon going on the steam train and back. It reminded me of the trains I travelled on as a child. Great journey, even the dog liked it.

As my dad is steam train mad we decided to take him on the steam train from Haversthwaite to lakeside and then on the boat to Ambleside. When I rang to enquire about the trip sue one of the staff suggested that he may want to ride on the footplate which he did. I want to say a big thank... More

A round trip on the railway takes just under an hour. The main station is at Haverthwaite where there is a café and a shop. There are some very pleasant views to be seen from the train. If you are boarding the train at Lakeside, the boat moors up a few yards from the platform, an Aquarium is situated by... More

This is a journey of approx 20 minutes each way to Lakeside. It is better to go from Haverthwaite to Lakeside as parking is easier and free. The station is also more interesting, with the engine shed if you are interested, but also activities for the kids such as face painting, play area, and sometimes owls on display that the... More

We took the journey from Haverthwaite to Lakeside which a short but interesting journey. The views on the way are great and the atmosphere on the train is exciting. You can pair the ticket with a visit to the Lakeside Aquarium which offers great value for money. If you have more time I would recommend going further than Lakeside to... More
