This monastery is about 40 km away from Ulan-Ude center and center of the Russian Buddhism. Traditional style old buildings and temples are there. It is not easy to see Buddhist temple in Russia. There is one more in St. Petersburg. Not easy to visit...More

I had the priviledge to visit in winter when the holiness of the site is more impacting than what one might experience in the peak tourist season of Summer. The guide was so informative about the nature and purpose of each Temple and the prayer...More

This place seems to lack the authenticity of other Buddhist temples I have been to. The coolest part is all the dogs that live there.

We've visited Elista before, so we've seen some buddhist shrines in Russia, but this large complex is unparalelled in its size and importance within Russia. We had a tour organized by our travel agency with one of the lamas accompaying us. He spoke Russian, so...More

Center of Russian Buddhist. Interesting & Peaceful place. It's only 30 km from Ulan Ude. If you don't have time you can get taxi to there. Cost is around 1700 Rubl.

This place is incredible from both historical and religious sides: being a headquater of Russian Buddhists, Datsan has everything to tell a story of Buddhism in Russia for true believers and regular tourists. Must see place if you travel to Baikal

We grew up in Thailand and are rather numbed to Buddhist monasteries but we greatly enjoyed the Ivolginsk Datsan because of how unique the architectural details were compared to the monasteries we grew up with. Wooden carvings and statues decorate the whole complex in a...More

The Invoginsk Datsan is supposedly one of Russia's most important buddhist religious places. However, as non-buddhist tourists, we left with mixed feelings. There is nowhere information available about the various temples and the religious purpose of the site, so you end up walking around the...More

A wide temple area, slightly too touristic to get a good understanding of Buddhism. Still a lovely spot in the countryside, definitely worth the journey.

Having visited Japan, I was let down by the temples here. I agree that it looks unusual to see Buddhist temples in Russia but they were really weird inside. There were a few tourists and I saw a couple of monks praying but no other...More
