This site is called the most romantic tour stop in Colombia by several agencies and I would have to admit it lives up to its reputation.

Those who have read the book MARIA probably will be most enchanted as the house tour kindles the memory of the sweet but tragic romance between Efrain and Maria.

It's a lovely old home, perfectly appointed for its day. But the charm of the home goes far beyond its walls and extends into the rose gardens, the beautiful vista from the house and the brightly colored birds found around the property.

We only spent 3 hours, touring and walking as well as eating in the outdoor restaurant. But we could have spent all day. I expected to be pleased but I was absolutely smitten.

It's an excellent place to visit. A look into the past of how families lived in Valle del Cauca. You can see the architecture of the time, the costumes and the objects they used. The writer of the famous novel "María" Jorge Isaacs lived on this farm. A beautiful place to learn a bit of history and visit as a family.

More history about "Maria" a book written by George Isaacs, the son of one of the founders of the sugar cane industry in Palmira, Colombia. This is a beautiful estate and "Maria" was one of the main reason the Japanese people settled in Palmira after WWII. This was an excellent history lesson presented by Juan, the owner of Viajero Terrestre, a travel agent based in Palmira.

This beautiful hacienda retains an originality of the period that few museums achieve. It is a small tour and the tour guide only spoke Spanish. However just walking freely in the house and gardens was delightful. There is a small souvenir shop and nursery with friendly staff. We visited on a wet Monday and had the place to ourselves. Will now read the famous novel set in the hacienda! A story of young love that was frustrated by parents.

If your into stories, movies and gardens, this place is for you. I have toured the Hacienda a few times in the last 50 years. It has not changed, but is great for a picnic, and also to explore the story and enjoy the gardens. I recomend this trip out of Cali, with a visit to the Sugar muesum. Lots of gardens and history of early life in Colombia.

The place is an old colonial house, but we took the guide-tour with Juan Pablo and it was really fun. He explains the history of the house and the novel about it. I strongly recommend to visit it and look for Juan Pablo. He is a showman, he recite parts of the novel making you cry! Great experience and lovely place.

This well conserved hacienda is in a beautiful setting in the Valle del Cauca. If you like to explore old houses this is an excellent example with original furniture and features. The guided tour is interesting and focuses on the autobiographical novel by Jorge Issacs set here but for me the most interesting thing was the building itself. There is also an amazing rose garden and some impressive trees. There is a little cafeteria with a limited selection of snacks and a couple of craft shops on site. However just in front of the hacienda, in true colombian style, people have set up stalls selling all sorts of food. There is also a little park with some rides there but it wasn't open on the day we went. There is a car park with attendants that cost us 3,000 pesos. Well worth the drive off the beaten track!

Breath taking views of the gardens. The diverse colors of roses are amazing. It did help that the love story was complemented with the gardens and the views.
