Castle rock has an Indian folklore attached to it. A Indian maiden would climb castle rock to wait for her husband to appear. Then she would climb down to meet him. One day he did not return and had died while hunting. She eventually jumped...More

Very enjoyable hike with an opportunity to scramble up the rock face at the top. There is a rope near the top to help navigate the rock. The first part of the trail is pretty steep and then it moderates. Lots of places to branch...More

castle rock is awesome. Great hike in Big bear lake. You can climb to the top of the rocks and get a great view of the lake.

I went there on labor day, wasn't crowded. This trail is quite easy, good for killing time and not too hot because there are trees along the way. At the top is so beautiful. worth it.

I'm a hiking freak so, of course, the sign on the road caught my eye. Just one mile is a piece of cake so I decided to explore. Great choice and great views! Go all the way around the rocks to find the yellow rope...More

Great trail and not very long. I did this with my dog. It was a well-marked trail and there were plenty of other hikers along the way.

We hiked this as a warm up for our hike to Gray's Peak the next day. Living near sea level meant huffing and puffing for the first, steeper, half mile. It's worth the effort. We got to Castle Rock and watched the climbers on the...More
