The Big Bear Alpine Zoo is a rehabilitation facility offering injured, orphaned and imprinted wild animals a safe haven; temporarily while they heal or permanently as they are unable to survive on their own.We are extremely proud that 90% of all the animals brought to us for rehabilitation are successfully released back into their native environment. Those that remain with us on exhibit are either too injured or have been imprinted by humans and can not be released back into the wild to care for themselves.

I love this zoo! They take such good care of the animals and you get an up close and personal view of the animals. Not like other zoos where it's a pain to try and find the animals in an enclosure...cant wait to go back!

I love animals so visiting a place that cares for those animals that can't make it by themselves made me smile. The animals are in good hands so that makes me want to help. The team is working on a new 10.5 acre home for...More

We hiked in the morning, had lunch then visited the zoo. It was small and we saw most everything in an hour but it was very enjoyable. They had many wolves, bears and our favorite the snow leopards. We got there at a perfect time...More

The grizzlies are amazing. Also a number of wolves and big cats. One of the best zoos I have ever been too. Especially for the size.

This is a zoo that rescues animals. They all have their own story. It's not a real large zoo which made it easy to visit with the kids. Plus, you get real close to all the animals. Our family of six had a great time...More

All of their animals are rescues. They are serious about helping the local wildlife. They do animal presentations at noon which are especially fun with kids. They also do behavioral enrichment activities. BBAZ gets well over 100 animals brought to it each year. These animals...More

Small zoo that specializes in local animals that are injured and imprinted on humans and wouldn't survive in the wild.

We enjoyed our walk through the zoo. We got super lucky and ended up in front of the snow leopard enclosure at feeding time. We were able to watch them be fed and it was pretty cool. They have a great set up!

10 minutes, 4.3 miles according to Mapquest. It's across the street from Bear Mountain ski resort, if you know Big Bear at all. Hope this helps.
