Just above the Rhine falls on the hill, the castle precinct had a beautiful view of the upper Rhine extending towards the fall and beyond though the actual fall was not visible. To get to the castle we did a fairly steep climb on the stairway from the ferry landing point. The entrance terrace was decorated with a beautiful flower bed. The castle was interesting with some exhibits but few and had a grand wooden staircase and some stained-glass windows. To thrill the visitors there was a horror room with a display of a table arrangement that had dinner plates moving on the table like some invisible character was moving them. A portrait of a count hung on the wall had its eyes inquiringly moving to either side. Some images were telling stories of what happened in the castle premises. The castle with a 1000-year-old history has withstood climate and changing weather conditions and was looking grandeur. There was activity going on in the terrace leading to the car park with an ice cream and snack vendor selling from a vintage Citron and we enjoyed the ice cream very much.

Incredible Views. Drove into the parking area and then entered the Schloss Laufen castle entrance before taking the lift halfway down to view this wonderful huge Rhine Falls. Quite spectacular and well worth a lengthy visit if anywhere near, Not to be missed.

I stayed in Laufen Castle via Hostel world as its a Youth Hostel, cost of £30 a night including breakfast. It was awesome!! Included is free access to the falls between 6pm - 9am meaning you had them all to yourself & did not have to queue with all the coachloads that arrive or pay, I visited them evening & morning, which was spectacular. The castle itself is a super place to stay & breakfast was adequate. ITS A MUST DO if you're visiting the area & have time to stay a night, why just view the falls with the masses or see only the outside of the castle when you can have the experience of it 1st hand. Cant recommend it highly enough

I took a tour around the castle as part of the falls experience in which you can also witness the Rhine falls up close. The castle itself was fairly pleasant, with a number of partially decorated rooms to explore. Having visited the castle two years before I can confirm that nothing has changed at all, which is slightly disappointing considering how much money must have been raised since. OVerall worth about 15 minutes of exploring.

My Laufen Castle stay was fantastic, find it on "YH International" as its a youth hostel, I stayed there in May with my sister & it cost £30pp (shared dorm, inc breakfast) We pretty much had the Castle & Rhine Falls to ourselves. See the falls at no cost between 6pm- 9am with no tourist queues! we didn't realise how lucky we had been until coach loads arrived the next day. Highly recommended. THE FALLS ARE SPECTACULAR!

The castle is on a side of a hill with a good view of the river and water fall below. The castle has the levels one on the outside requiring the walking down a steep flight of stairs. Special tickets are required to enter the castle. On the ground level on the exterior there is a patio area where pictures can be taken of the river and falls. The interior group level requires the ticket to be scanned to be admitted. There are a few rooms with paintings, exhibits and furniture. The second floor is the same with some areas closed to the public. There is a full service restaurant next to the castle. There are restrooms nearby.

This is the largest waterfall in Europe and it flows at a rate of some 600 cubic metres a second. The access walkways and viewing platforms take you to within 10 feet of the water and the sight and sound is incredible.
Sited above the falls is the castle has an imposing view. Inside, one can walk through the various rooms and read about it's history. Unfortunately, as is the case with may Swiss attractions, the amount of information in English is limited. Also, it is disappointing that the rooms are sparsely furnished.
Tickets cost 5CHF and give access to the waterfall, its walkways and the castle. From the lowest level, one take a boat trip across the river (it would take an hour to walk it) where tourist boats offer shorts hops to the island amidst the falls and or 15 and 30 minute up-close viewing trips.
Great attraction but watch out for the extortionate prices in the snack BIstro and the 3% mark up if you choose to pay in GBP.

When you arrive by train, you ascend an elevator. You will be on the grounds of the former Castle, well it is still called that, however it is just a youth hostel and restaurant now. The restaurant around the back is quite popular with indoor and outside seating. A nice touch on a pleasant day, but be prepared to pay for the experience. It is very historic dating back many hundred of years and an important part of Swiss history and culture, however the main attraction here is the waterfalls.

Although the castle itself is pretty you can’t actually see the falls from it which is a bit disappointing - you can go down in a lift from there though to access the viewing points.

Via this place you can comfortably access the Rhine falls. There are 3 or 4 viewing platforms. The lower ones let you come ever so close to the roaring water mass. You have the feeling that if you stick your arm out you can touch the water, and at one point that feeling is actually correct.
Everything is perfectly safe though.
It is partially wheelchair accessible: via elevator and slopes you can reach the highest platform that gives a good overview over the falls. But the lower platforms are only to be reached via flights of stairs.
If you go down all the way you can make a boat trip over the Rhine. Various routes and prices.
