A breathtaking area 🥹
Just magnificent, a 20-minute walk will be offered to you before of course getting down to business, the HSE rum tasting!!!

The wineries are magnificent in their juices next to the old distillery which can be visited freely.

The bar is nice, I highly recommend. 😉

What a beautiful discovery!
A warm welcome, an incredible garden, an interesting exhibition on medicinal plants, and finally an exceptional guided tasting.
You can go with your eyes closed.... Or rather wide open because you will take full eyes and taste buds.
The range of Rum is incredible and especially a special mention for the wine cellar present that day (Clement) which gave me all the necessary explanations to understand both the cultivation of Sugarcane and the making of Rum, ageing etc... passing through the history of the Saint Etienne home.
Thank you!

In general, always very well received by a young man but this April 29, 2024 was just an execrable moment on the scene. This woman had no desire, no smile, no professionalism, she spoke to us in a condescending manner and was in a hurry to get us off the counter. I think she selected the clients who inspired her. She barely presented the products to us and we had to insist. She placed the glass very loudly on the table for us! As for the bottle, she was probably afraid that someone would go away with it. When the customer comes from far away, endures kilometers of road to come and spend at least 200th and come with family it is not to confront this type of individual who shames the place that I generally appreciate. bad memory with this woman who has no place there

Visiting HSE to buy some bottles we were greeted by Clement an employee at the tasting service. He explained to us all the operation of the distillery and allowed us to taste several vintages. Many thanks to him for the time spent and kindness. It was by far the best distillery welcome we had in Martinique!

I want to say I came across HSE once or twice in the US and as much as I am a fan of their rhum I must say Habitation Saint Etienne sounds much more inviting than HSE :)

Why I bother saying this? It's because this distillery visit concept is created around a fairy tale" one and it actually comes with some very positive and fun art - where La Favorite is the brute, HSE is the fairy with the magic wand - once you come here you will get it, and appreciate my lame comparison :) it's all unfortunately in French and so is the map but non French people will still enjoy it and appreciate the art/exhibits, just miss out on the story (we don't speak French for the record) - it's free to visit so that's of course a big plus.

The grounds are pretty big and open; the old distillery was definitely the place where you will spend the most time before heading to the park/statues and afterwards of course inside the gift shop sampling the rhums. Do spend some time in the park and by the waterfall as it's a very tranquil and relaxing place. If it just rained, and it rains quite often in Martinique, you may want to clean your shoes as there is some mud in the area of the park - nothing terrible just FYI you can always stay on the main road and admire the things from the distance too if little mud scares you away :)

Really enjoyed their rhum - the 3-packs they sell are a really good way to take some smaller bottlers of variety rhums home for about 38 USD - enjoyed. The gentlemen doing sampling was super "smooth and relaxed" and spoke perfect English - very pleasant experience!

TIP: if you are in this area of the island I highly recommend going for a lunch and checking out the eastern-most part of Martinique - it's the "green extension" of the La Trinite region or what I call it "Martinique's right arm" :) I highly recommend the lunch at Cocoa Beach Cafe - best meal we had on the island!

We spent a week cruising the West Indies and stopped at many distilleries along the way. The HSE distillery was way up high on the list for the taste of its rum. We bought several bottles after our tasting. However, there was not much to tour at the distillery. It's more of a one room visitor's center with some art and great rum. Nevertheless, I am very glad I stopped and enjoyed what they had to offer.

For a visit here, you need only about 30-45 minutes, so plan your day accordingly and take an opportunity to visit other attractions on the island.

This is a distillery surrounded by some attractive grounds. It was not the best we’ve seen on our trip but it was still nice, especially the row of tall palm trees. It wasn’t as crowded as other distillery's which was a plus. The store selling rum also has some large black and white wall photos of locals. The distillery is not worth going out of your way for, but if you are in the area it’s worth a visit.

One of the very last rhum factories for us to visit (after 10 years of returning to Martinique.) The grounds are lovely, the staff is helpful and willing to explain and allow you to taste most rhums. Well worth the drive to experience a distillery which isn't overrun with tour buses (yet).

Very nice welcome in this distillery that can be visited for free as well as the exhibition and its classified garden.
It's a little eccentric, but the tour is worth it
