We had an excellent Bird Tour of two hours by our guide Luis. He knew so much and showed us almost 40 different species. Without this excellent guide we wouldn’t have noticed all this beauty. And we were lucky to have howler monkeys passing us at the bridge over the river.

What an amazing place. We stayed in the accommodation which was really well appointed. The beds were super comfy and the garden patio was lovely to sit in and enjoy the view. We did the chocolate tour with Louis and Don Christian - this was equally interesting and entertaining and the chocolate was to die for! We also did a night bat walk within Sharlene and it was fascinating. the staff are so passionate about the reserve and that really comes across. Breakfast was hearty and tasty and we were treated with sightings of iguanas and a sloth before breakfast!

We spent 2 1/2 hours with Charlene on a chocolate tour, which was also a great tour of the rainforest and introduction to CR.

Whilst staying in Sarapiqui we wanted to explore the tropical lowland rainforest and see what wildlife we could find - Tirimbina was perfect for this. The well-marked trails are set in beautiful forest, with great views over the river from the hanging bridge as you enter. Our morning natural history tour was definitely the pick of the tours, with our enthusiastic guide happy to answer our many questions whilst showing us both sloth species, motmots and trogons among other wildlife. The night tour was also really enjoyable, yielding plenty of frogs and a few reptiles, although the large group size made viewing and photography time for each animal limited.

My husband and I absolutely loved this tour! On the way to the reserve, our private guide, Luis, knew where to stop to watch the boiling of peach plums which we sampled. From a local fruit stand we brought some exotic fruit back with us, like mangostenes, peach plums and ripe finger bananas.

Luis was a great guide who pointed out things along the trail we may never have noticed by ourselves. He found a tiny red poison dart frog the size of a pea, by following the sound it makes. He used a green lazer to pinpoint were each howler monkey and sloth was, high up in the trees, which made finding them easy. We also saw a big green iguana and tiger egrets along with lines of army ants. We learned a lot as we walked along.

Charlene, our friendly, informative chocolate tour guide, took us along the reserve's path filled with lush vegetation to a cacao farm. We learned what it takes to grow cacao. Then we sat for an informative yet fun demonstration of the making of chocolate with some guest participation. Guisepe was the chocolate master, preparing the cacao seeds through each phase while we tasted samples along the way, reaching the final phase of melted chocolate. It was a fun, delicious, hands on way to learn.

After the tour, Luis brought us to a local open air restaurant for lunch, with delicious food and fresh juices. It was a great way to end the day. This was a fantastic tour and left us with happy memories for a lifetime. We'd highly recommend it!

The chocolate tour and hanging bridges were an amazing experience! Our guide, William, was incredible and super knowledgeable not only about the chocolate process but also plants and animals we saw during the walk. Loved every part of the tour and I can’t wait to go back to this incredible place. ♥️

We did the chocolate tour. Very detailed. Learned a lot about American vs Europe way to make cocoa/chocolate. Tasted cocoa in various stages. Guide was great. Tour was closer to 3 hours. The rooms were OK. A/C worked great. Restaurant was wonderful.
