This is a magnificent place to use as an activity-based holiday. The town is simply delightful. We visited for a few days last year and are due to go again in June 2016 on a return trip. This time, given the positive experience, some of us are taking our wives as there is plenty to enjoy, see and do in... More

We went to Varallo to visit the UNESCO heritage site, the Sacromonte di Varallo, a 16th life-sized diorama of the Bible and life of Christ meant to be a way for pilgrims to "go to Jerusalem" without all the time, expense and distance. The Sacromonte itself is quite wonderful and beautiful, unexpectedly so. The view from the top is quite... More

A lovely town with a distinctive character and it's own bathing beach. Quirky shops and restaurants, great local art and civic pride. Cruelly excommunicated from the rail network recently, but road access is good, and coaches provide a regular service

I am a keen and very well informed enthusiast of Renaissance architecture and design and I was absolutely staggered by Varallo- both for its intrinsic quality and the fact that I had never heard of it before. The individual chapels are exquisite, mainly late 15/early 16th century- but of greater interest to me was their arrangement around the hill and... More

Lovely little town, with a cute center, a nice church, nice architecture all around the old town, if you are around it's a place to visit.

A gorgeous historical town with the UNESCO world heritage site of Sacro Monte, a renaissance masterpiece af architecture and art, set in a beautiful mountain park - you can combine a healthy walk with a satisfying cultural visit with spectacular views. Don't miss the Pinactoeca, the second art gallery in Piedmont - a great bad weather alternative to the Sacro... More

A quaint little town with an excellent market on Tuesdays, perfectly located for visiting the Sacro Monte di Varallo and the Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie. Or, pop up the valley to take advantage of the walking and skiing available in Alagna.
