The townscape from the 1700s is worth the price of admission and the building is fun to explore. The museum is just a short walk from the town center. If you enjoy TV shows like "How It's Made", you'll really like the furniture exhibit.

In the middle of the 19th Century, Thonet invented the process for making bentwood furniture. This fascinating museum not only shows some amazing examples of his work but tells the story of his life and explains the process he used. Born in Boppard, he moved...More

We seemed to be the only visitors and found an interesting collection of bentwood furniture and little else. We climbed to the top of the tower where the views were interesting but there were no seating facilities on offer.

The Bentwood furniture exhibits and the history of the company were interesting as the process was developed in Boppard but most of the building appeared empty and under used. Without a knowledge of German little could be gleaned of the significance of the historical exibits.

We were interested in seeing the Bentwood chair collection but ended up learning a lot more about the 2000 year history of Boppard in this city museum. We enjoyed seeing this lovingly restored Electoral Castle that houses the museum.

Fairly new opened museum near the center of Boppard which had a reasonable entry fee of 3€. The building is very nice (gray and white trim) and the inside was more sparse than I anticipated. There is a Bentwood collection of chairs and mostly furniture....More

Don't forget to go up all levels to the tower!! In 2016 this museum seems brand new occupying the whole of the old modest castle on the banks of the Rhine. Well worth €3 to see the bentwood chair collection in the place they were...More

This museum opened recently, and contains finds from Boppard's history, and, a speciality interest, Michael Thonet's bentwood furniture. There is still a lot of empty space, so I should think more artefacts will be added. Low price at 4 euros.
