Visited in July with wife and 2 boys. Walked up to the Drachenfels which turned out to be a nice outing. Surely recommended.

There is a funicular, or a trail leading to the top. The walk up is a bit steep at the beginning, but not very strenuous. It takes about 40 minutes to get up. The Drachenfels castle ruins at the top offer a nice view. There...More

Excellent view to the Rhine Valley - both south and north - and very nice spot to climb up the Dragon Rock ruine. You can interrupt the cog railway ridehalf way in order to visit the Schloss Wolkenburg and the nice garden (extra payment!) The...More

Make sure you've got your walking boots and a stick! The walk up Drachenfels is steep but you definitely get rewarded at the top with great views and maybe a waffle too!

I had only one thought the entire time, ‘I am literally on top of the world.’ It feels like you can see forever and as one of my friends pointed out, you can see why they’d choose to build a castle there with a view...More

I have been coming here since I was 6 or 7 years old - my grandfather would have me ride on a donkey to the top and tell me the story of how Siegrfried slayed that dragon. You can walk up either along a paved...More

The ruins are totally secondary to the view. You can see forever up and down the Rhine. Take the train or walk, either way you will be rewarded. The walk is strenuous!

Head up the hills on the mountain railway or walk up if you're feeling energetic. Take in the beautiful views across the Rhine Valley and across to Bonn. Don't miss the ruins at the very top and stop for refreshment in the smart modern cafe.

We had a great trip with the whole family up there. The younger people hiked (about 30min up) and the older ones were able to take the cable car, which was quite convenient and not too expensive either. There is a restaurant up there and...More

Great views. Good value. Nostalgic train and a nice walk down took about an hour for the walk. It was a bit steep but I only had sensible sandles on. We took the dog which they charged 1 euro for. You can get the train...More

Hi Laura, The cog rail has only three stops, one at the top, one halfway next to the castle Drachenburg and one in Königswinter. The nearest railway station is Königswinter Bf. The nearest subway/tram station is called... More

Take the regional express train to Koenigswinter, then follow the tourist trail(and the donkeys).
