We took the train from Wernigerode up to the summit of the Brocken. A great day out for all involved, we travelled with children aged 7 and 12 and all enjoyed it in their own way. The steam engines are impressive and the scenery as...More

My son and I rode the HSB twice. The first ride was on a steam train from Wernigerode to Drei Annen. It was cool to ride on the platform and listen to the locomotive work upgrade. Our second ride was the early morning railcar trip...More

A fantastic network of a railway. Take as much time as you like. A good three days travel if you want. Fantastic steam engines that are only narrow gauge but as big as our standard gauge locos. No need for rushing out in the morning,...More

Almost excellent - great trains, relaxed atmosphere. Shame about the attitude of the ticket office receptionist at Wernigerode, who seemed to take the attitude that it was a great nuisance to explain things to a foreigner!

It was expensive at €42 per person return but if you are unlikely to be visiting the area again worth it. The trip time is around 2.5 hours both ways and we spent about 2 hours at the summit. Luckily we choose a good day...More

None of the info either on-line, or in HSB publicity, note the bargain 18 Euro 3 day pass which is currently on offer. This may be an out of season only deal. It covers the entire HSB network, with the exception of the Brocken, all...More

Yes, i’d definitly recommend you to stay in werningerode, it’s a small beautiful town. I think the weather in september is perfect, not to warm, not to cold. The railways are open the whole day, i think.
