We travelled on the HSB steam railway from Wernigerode to Brocken and back, as a day trip by train from Hannover. Although a long day trip (about 12 hrs in total) it was really enjoyable and well worth it. The steam train climbs up through...More

The Harz Steam Railway is a real working railroad providing public transportation to the communities of the Harz Mountain Region. We traveled to the area and rode the train for the train enthusiast in our family, but everyone enjoyed the experience. The coaches were comfortable...More

The steam railway that runs through the Harz mountains is a bit of an anachronism. At the end of the day, the steam shed in Wernigerode gently sighs with a cache of smart looking, beautifully maintained steam engines resting after a hard day's work. A...More

Yes this attraction is expensive at 42€ for an adult but for that you are on the train for the best part of 4 hours if you go up to the Brocken and back. This line is very quaint through Wernigorode and up through the...More

It is expensive at €42 per person return but if you are unlikely to be visiting the area again worth it. The trip time is around 2.5 hours both ways and we spent about 2 hours at the summit. Luckily we choose a good day...More

Nice half-a-day activity, the steam train takes you back in time, it is a great adventure for everybody, from couples to families. The landscapes are really nice, although we travelled at the beginning of the spring and many trees were still naked. You can buy...More
