City fortifications along the riverside at Oberwesel are still found currently. The initial purpose of the wall should be for defense purposes.

Because I have a passion for medieval military architecture my girlfriend and I decided to visit the town of Oberwesel. Maybe our expectations were too high but the city fortifications left us somewhat underwhelmed. The town ramparts looked less impressive than anticipated. The south section...More

Walking atop part of the wall was interesting. The section along the river has a tower that can be climbed. What was a little difficult was going from one part of the wall segment to another when it was interrupted. There was a map, but...More

It's fun to walk on the - rather long - historic city walls. Families with kids love to do that. You have nice views towards both sides, the town and the river side.

After 20 minutes on the boat from St. Goar, we arrive at Oberwesel. Oberwesel boasts some of the best medieval wall and tower remains on the Rhine. We enter the city, see the town walls, and climb the stairs to walk along the medieval town...More

We were in Oberwesel over Christmas and on Christmas eve the town shuts down for a week. With lots of time on our hands we decided to do the defensive wall walk and look at all of the towers; it was very nice, cool views...More

This is a nice wall that goes most of the way around Oberwesel. It does not have a covered walkway as Rothenburg does. It is a walkway atop the wall. There are several towers.
