City fortifications along the riverside at Oberwesel are still found currently. The initial purpose of the wall should be for defense purposes.

It's fun to walk on the - rather long - historic city walls. Families with kids love to do that. You have nice views towards both sides, the town and the river side.

While on the Mosel, stop by Oberwesel and check out the historic fortifications along the river a better perspective on the town.

We visited and explored Oberwesel and it's ramparts on 2 different days because of rainy weather, spending about 2-3 hours total here.....and we learned after the fact that it's best to walk these ramparts starting from the Marktplatz end, particularly if you want to walk...More
