Its a UNESCO world heritage site.

We start out journey from Oldenburg by train and reach Norden. from Norden we took a taxi to Norddich. There we ride a small ship and reach the island Norderney situated in the other side. We pay 11 Euro's each to a guide and she lead us to the way back through the mud.

It was really a good experience. When we ride the boat there was full water in the sea but this is the same sea bed through we walked back.

It took us nearly an hour to reach the main land. You can see a lot of seal in the beach. The island on the other side is also beautiful.

There are some small water bodies and canal alike things in the sea bed when we walked back. Its better to take a guide and make sure you are wearing a socks when hiking in the mud.

I went to the Wadden Sea from Sahlenburg, a small town located at the Germany north sea coast and part of Cuxhaven City. Sahlenburg popular as one of the check point for visitors to explore the uniqueness of Wadden Sea, World Heritage Site (gazetted by UNESCO in 2009) and one of the most popular National Park in Germany. Another popular check point to Wadden Sea is Duhnen, also part of Cuxhaven city. I wanted to explore the Wadden Sea by horse wagon ride and booking made through online one day earlier and the person incharge reminded us to come to the wagon station before 9.30 am because their schedule according the duration of the low tide in Wadden Sea ( low and high tide alternate every six hours in the Wadden Sea). We arrived about 15 minutes late, and they put us on the last wagon and at the last row . In the wagon already waited five passengers, 2 persons seated at the front row, next to the conductor, and two adults with their two small kids seated at the middle row. The conductor of the wagon put a slim ladder at the last row for three of us to climb up onto the wagon. The conductor took his seat and gave a short instruction in Deutch then the two horses wagon moving toward the sandy beach, then into the mudflats of Wadden Sea. In front of us more than 20 wagons already in the queue, moving across the Wadden Sea towards the Nuewerk Island. I saw bunches of dried brunches they plant into the mudflat all along the route as a guide for the wagons and others. I can feel and hear the strong wind blow and I felt very cold even though covered with three layered of clothing plus a winter jacket outside, luckily everybody in the wagon provided with a thick blanket. From the wagon I saw the mudflat in various pattern, shape up by the wind and water, some part covered with shallow and clear water, some part without water but covered with holes done by the sea worms, and I saw all sort of shells on the mudflats. We saw not only wagons across the sea towards the Newerk Island but lorries, horse riders and hikers also going to the same destination. Our wagon quite fast and took over three wagons, suddenly at the middle of our journey, the rain fall down but not too heavy and just for a short while only , maybe this is a common phenomena, that is why the wagon provided us with canvas, we just pull up the canvas from bottom to our waist. We also saw wagons, lorries, horse riders, hikers moving from the opposite route, from the island towards mainland. Now, from the wagon we can see the island become nearer and nearer, after one hour journey we arrived at Nuewerk Island, also part of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Along the journey, the conductor tried to explain or give some information regarding the sea & the island but I do not understand because he speak in Deutch. After one hour in the island, we back to the mainland using the same wagon, the same conductor and the same route and we paid 25 euro each person for the return journey. What happen if the high tide come suddenly, especially for the hikers? then they have to climb up at the nearest rescue cage tower along the route.

At low Tide the ocean recedes for miles. In fact so far that you can walk to the nearest island - or take a horse-drawn carriage. It is an experience like no other and I love going there.

Wattenmeer:The Wadden Sea was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2009. For over a thousand years this part of the world has experienced a receding of the ocean levels even in the face of the global warming alarmists. This natural evolution, aided by mankind, had resulted in the creation of 180 new communities in the North Sea area of Germany, called Köge such as Friedrichskoog and Polders in the Netherlands the latest one being the Leybuchtpolder in 1951 in Germany where the reclaimed ocean land was partially given to refugees from the ceded province of East Prussia. Unfortunately the creation of these Polders and Köge has been stopped by environmentalists who construe it as an invasion of nature. Sheep are no longer allowed to fertilize the reclaimed land in Friedrichskoog. Instead a whole new industry has involved of guiding tourists through the six miles or more mud left behind by the disappearing ocean. It is a unique part of the world and worth a visit if nothing less than to disprove the fallacy of the global rise in sea levels.

I visited the Wadden Sea in Tossens and went on it with a guide. It was a very nice experience and we got very good explanation from the guide. A must-see when you are in the area! However, only to visit with a guide as it can become dangerous when going by yourself.
