This listing is not located in in Kleve (Schleswig-Holstein) but in Kleve (North Rhine-Westphalia). When the last Duke of Kleve, Johann Wilhelm von Jülich-Kleve-Berg, in mental illness and childless thus no heirs died in 1609 the rich Kingdom lay bare so thus causing an outburst of a succession struggle between various German princes. Already on 4 April 1609 count Stephan von Hertefeld attatched the Brandenburg coat of arms to the Castle Tower in Kleve stating the inherital rights of its electors on the Duchy of Cleves, whereafter for more than 300 years of Prussian rule, due to this the Cleves duchy was the oldest part of Prussian monarchy property in the West. From 1640 until his death in 1688 was Friedrich Wilhlem I elector of Brandenburg and Duke of Prussia from House of Hohenzollern (since 1675 nicknamed "Great elector"). In order to celebrate the 300-year-old interconnection of the Duchy of Cleves with Brandenburg-Prussia, Emperor Wilhelm II traveled to Kleve for the inaugregation of the statue of the “Great Elector” on 9 August 1909.

As soon as you leave the castle Schwanenburg you walk toward this monument, the statue of Friedrich Wilhelm Markgraf von Brandenburg on a horse up on a high pedestal. Well, it's not something you have to see but oke to add my photo collection of Kleve

Grossen Kurfürsten means Great Elector in English. It was the nick name of Wilhelm I von Brandenburg, also duke of Prussia who ruled Cleves from 1640 to 1688. His statue was inaugurated in 1909 by Wilhelm II, the last German emperor who fled to Holland after WOI.

Keep in mind that rule by Brandenburg/Prussia was rather nominal in 17th century Germany's Western parts, most power was in the hands of an appointed local administrator, in case of Cleves, Wilhelm in 1648 appointed John Maurice (Johann Moritz) of Nassau-Siegen.
