The promenade by Lake Constance in Friedrichshafen is converted into a pedestrian street. There is a museum and shops and restaurants. A grand tour allows you to have a 360 ° view of the city of Friedrichshafen and a view of Switzerland on the other side of the lake. It is a pleasant place to spend the end of the afternoon.

Start by climbing the stairs to the top of the view tower close to the ferry boats, to enjoy a stunning view over the lake, Alps, and Friedrichshafen. Then, have an ice cream at "Kaffee - Brot - Wein" you won't find more delicious ice cream (and cakes and coffee) north of the Alps than in this Cafe. Take a long stroll from the ferry boats all the way along the promenade, parks, Biergarten, marina, and up to the castle/church. Best at the end of a sunny day in July. One of my favorite spots in Europe.

This provides a good urban walk along the lakeside with some interesting sculptures. During the summer there are probably a plethora of open cafes for coffee and lunch, even in winter there is plenty of choice at the eastern end.

The city of Friedrichshafen has a long shore along the Bodensee. The west starts were the old castle (not accessible) and church (accessible) are located and you can walk all the way eastward to the ferry harbour, probably about 3 kilometers or even a bit more. The eastern part is the most busy with lots of nice terraces of bars, ice cream parlors and restaurants and most have an outside terrace too. Then a few shops and the famous water fountain and further east the watch tower which one can climb for free to overlook the harbour and observe the ferries going in and out.
Always busy and many things to see so a good (and free) attraction to spend a sunny afternoon or evening.

I took the ferryboat from Romanshorn in february. And some restaurants had their winterclosing time. For the rest it was nice to walk around there.

Friedrichshafen is not a pretty town, nor does it have much character. There are other places on the lake which are much more attractive. I'm not really sure why people go there - it's a short lakeside promenade with lot of icecream shops and pizza joints selling food of the kind you could get in England in the 80s. Other places on Lake Constance are nicer.

The promenade on one side has the lake and on the other lots of bars and restaurants. It’s a nice walk along the promenade admiring the views over the lake. Some of the restaurants have outside seating so you are able to sit on the promenade and watch the world go by.

If you are in Friedrichshafen on a sunny day this is the place to be. Lots of delightful restaurants and bars, lovely views across the Bodensee, clean and safe. A great place to relax and unwind.

Friedrichshafen is a nice little city and has a big coast line t the lake. Many possibilities - everywhere clean and safe. And you always find a cafe to get warm again.
