Bamberg in general is a beautiful city.. The Dom is an area that brings together the history and culture and is located in the perfect area also, I highly recommend a trip and also pop into the rose gardens next door during the summer

Must visit on your trip to bamberg. No excuses :) The cathedral in itself is a wonder. It is best viewed from the garden and is in the postcards of bamberg. The inside of the cathedral is also amazing and worth spending much time here. I would never have expected such a cathedral here. No wonder the emperor wanted to... More

Bamberg itself is a marvelous city and our hotel was just below the Dom which is one of the biggest in Germany. The inside is quite medieval, with few colors and paintings but many stones and quite cold, scary, heheheheh, but it is worth a visit as the altar is quite pretty and all the sculptures are beautiful.

There is so much to see in the Dom. The architecture (the 4 towers are in different styles), the story about the Queen, the rider and suppositions about his identity, the little "devil heads" painted on the ceiling - and the reason why they are painted (they are really hard to find and very small, look carefully!). I'm not religious,... More

Having heard so.much about the Dom, I was disappointed to find the church not as interesting as many I've already seen in Germany. It's the wrong time of year for the roses to be in flower in the rose garden but the cafe was a great spot to relax and look over the rooftops. Bamberg itself is very pretty with... More

The Dom is very impressive from the outside as it dominates the sky line. On a hot day, it is a great place to sit and contemplate the interior decorations. It was a bit disappointing that there was no stained-glass but it was interesting none-the-less although not quite as impressive as some other cathedrals we've visited. It is worth the... More

So this church is really impressive. There is a pope's tomb. There are sculptures high on wall that you wonder how they can be there. There is the usual incredible organ. Yet, I have seen others I liked better like Basilika Vierzehnheiligen in Bad Staffelstein. The interior of that church is white and spectacular. That being said, the museum here,... More

The foundation stone for this Cathedral of St Peter and St Georg was laid in 1004 and after the first building was partly destroyed by fire it was completed in late-Romanesque style in 1111. The four spires are about 81 metres high thus the Dom has a great presence in this city. In 1047 Pope Clement II was buried here,... More
