Experience amazing sights, sounds, smells and delicious tastes as the past comes to life.

Beamish is unique - our objects aren't locked away in glass cases, this is hands-on history!

Step into the past and explore our 350 acre site, as Beamish tells the story of the people of North East England in the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s. Taste traditional food from a coal-fired range, hop on board a tram or steam train, play schoolyard games together and pop into the Co-op shops.

Come back time and time again with your Beamish Unlimited Pass, which allows 12 months free entry to the museum from your visit - including all day time special events!

Had been here before, but several years ago. Plenty of car parking available, ticket purchase was a bit slow wanting person details ( probably for marketing? ) Site is huge and people transport buildings etc play their parts supremely well. Tram service means getting from location to location is easy and quaint. Midweek visit in school term time was very... More

Is there anyone in the UK who's never heard of Beamish? If there is then you don't know what you are missing. The site is an open air museum covering the period from about 1900 to 1945 with a working Pit and village, a farm, fun fair, station and town. The weekend we went was Flag and Empire day with... My first visit here was good fun followed by another visit with my nieces who absolutely loved there time here, my last visit I found disappointing, perhaps as it was pre summer rush and it seemed like a lot of trainee staff around, the town is always great but found the food restaurant very disappointing the queue was long service... What a great place to visit for young and old . Plenty of things to see and do. If I had one complaint it would be the lack of eateries. The queue for the fish shop was 100 metres long and the little pastie/ pie shop was half that .

This site is bigger than you think, but the tram and bus services make sure that you can get around easily. There are exhibits currently from 1820 to 1940 and they are in specific areas of the museum to make it easier to understand. All exhibits have costumed demonstrators who are able to explain things to you. The shops in... More

My wife and I visited the Beamish Museum on the recommendation of my brother in law. Unique is a frequently overused term but Beamish is unique, certainly in the UK. It recreats a Britain of yesteryear mainly just prior to the First World War with buildings that have been amazingly largely transported and rebuilt brick by brick on site from... More

I thought it to be expensive at £19 an adult and although that gives limitless entry within 12 months, if you do not live in the area, we don't, you are unlikely to use the ticket again. It is of course a walk back in time, very interesting, I particularly liked the mining village. Lots to see and do around... More

On the day we visited the weather was kind to us as we spent a lot of time outside. With the exception of getting from the Waggon way to the Pockley Old Hall ( next door to each other) we used the Trams a pleasure in itself . We spent time at each location and found the staff very friendly... More
