Joshimath situated at a altitude of 6150 ft is the Gateway to Himalayan mountain expeditions and pilgrimage locales .Joshimath Cantonment is one of India's most important army military station as it is closest to the Indo- Tibetan border of China. The Ropeway for skiing tourists wanting to visit Auli for winter sports was in close proximity to "Jyoti Hotel", our residence in Joshimath..Joshimath is a launching point for pilgrimage locales in the Himalaya's during summer and winter sports for tourists during winter season

We visited in Nov 2020, the Narasingh temple in Joshimath. The temple has idol of Narashima Swamy and Lakshmi temple. Lord Badrinath is worshipped here for 6months, when the temples closes on the hill. The temple has been redone and is a must visit. The place is quiet and peaceful. There are hotels around, if you like to stay.

This is one of the 4 institutions established by Adi Shankara. It is close to Badrinath, holy pilgrim center. The presiding deity is Lord Narasimha, an avatar of Lord Vishnu. The deity was established by Adi Shankara. This temple forms part of 108 Divya Desams, highly revered by Vaishnava sect.

Lots of Garhwal trek starts here. For example - Kuari Pass, Roopkund, Bagini Glacier, Satopanth, Kagbhusandi (and of course Valley of flowers , Hemkund on the similar route from Govindghat), Bhyunder Khal, Rishikund trek etc to name a few. Auli is a great place for holiday makers whichis about 16km from Joshimath. We stopped for brief while while going towards Govindghat and while returning we changes our share taxi from Govindghat. We paid Rs 100 per head. We walked along the market and boarded another shared zeep to Chamoli which took Rs 150 per head.

Recommended to stay in Joshi math on your way to Badrinath or Auli as it is a central place quite vibrant and has a full functional market. With many decent hotel destinations & good eating joints this place would be a good option for a night or two

This is newly renovated temple at Joshimath. This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, in the incarnation of Narsinha. It is believed that Narsinmha killed Hiranyakashpu and was in very anger at that time. All the Gods made him calm and quite at this place.
