Not a bad place to spend an hour

Interesting place where you can learn all about sugar. Some really good art pieces made from sugar to see. It is not just sugar though as there is also a toy section with some interesting toys from the past. You can also see the people who work there doing there jobs. The shop is excellent but a expensive place if you have a sweet tooth.

Don't bother

The international Palace of Nougat: we thought this place would be worth visiting. But it is very old and faded, selling all sorts of sweets not made on the premises, and very little nougat. Don't bother going.

Bit outdated
Jul 2015 • Family
I expected a bit more from this, but it looked like it could use some paint and some updating. We decided to just go to the store and get us some nougat. At the back there was a store, a place to have a coffee and for children to play and a very very small animal farm. It smells like those animals though...
the nougat wasn't all made at the palais, so we picked the one that was and although all was pricy, the nougat was delicious!

Terrible tourist tat

As we drove through France I remembered visiting Montellimar years ago, and buying the most wonderful nougat, so we thought we might do that again. On entering the town, we saw official signs for this place, and assumed that all the local producers had combined to sell their products in one place. Oh how wrong could we be! On the outskirts of town is a huge, scruffy pink and purple warehouse, where the air smells of confectioner's sugar as you get out of the car. Entering the door, ignoring giant lollipops with paint peeling, we found a girl, on the phone, who took no interest in our arrival at all. Eventually she pointed to the back of the building, so we walked round, and past giant animals, again with peeling paint, and an air of decrepitude. We found the shop. The first thing on display were Haribo! In a corner at the back we found the nougat, all with almonds, some in different colours claiming to be citrus (yellow) raspberry (pink) etc.,but none with fruit, or different nuts or any selection at all. Sadly we didn't have time to go back into the town to look for a smaller producer, but I would suggest to anyone wanting the genuine product that they avoid this place and look for a smaller producer.

It`s Ok

It`s very expensive for what it is, the toy museum is weird and creepy and it needs updating. I think it is a cheek to ask for an entrance fee into the bouncy castle / soft play area.

Go to your local candy store and a nougat maker for free.

Pretty disappointing for the price. We could have made our own candy museum at home for what we spent to get our family in. Toy museum is more for adults than kids. But as a bribe to get your kids to behave while you are tasting the local wines earlier in your vacation, it works...

For sweet lovers and curious

Everyone knows Montelimar for the nougat......but did you know how it's made exactly and the different type (hard, soft, flavored...).
Go there you will be back to your childhood and will be surprised to take a pleasure with your old friends nougat. How say it's old fashioned ?
