Walk with the Romans

After Pompeii this is the most evocative Roman town I have visited. You really get a sense of how they lived in their villas and can walk down a 2000 year old shopping street

Wasn't too crowded. At the same time, not much to see if you've been to Roman ruins elsewhere. If you don't want to pay, you can see most of it from behind the fences. There's a good stroll from the main street to the Notre Dame de Nazareth Cathedral with ruins on your right (follow Rue Trogue to Chemin Couradou)... More

What a fantastic museum and area. We had been before and spent just as much time on our return. We did not get the audio guide this time; we just wandered and enjoyed the gorgeous fall weather.

There are places in southern France where one can see large and astonishing Roman structures, but the ruins and museum in Vaison-la-Romaine may be the most comprehensive collection of household artifacts and remains of buildings in the country. The museum is well organized, and the audio guide is extremely helpful, even for those with a good reading knowledge of French.... More

These sites are the main reason to visit this city although there are also some good restaurants and stores. The sites are well documented and well ,preserved.

While there are more complete Roman structures in Provence this site has two great videos to give you background and the museum has some wonderful pieces. This whole site is really well done.

Our trip to Provence included multiple sites (Arles, Nimes, Orange) to see Roman sites and ruins. It's really worthwhile to visit the two sites in Vaison if you want to learn more about Roman planning, engineering, architecture, lifestyle. There's a fine museum as part of the admission fee, with excellent examples of what was excavated during the dig -- really... More

It was a great way to spend a morning. The museum was excellent and helped us to better understand the significance of the ruins we saw. We did not get the audio tour but did catch two films at the museum (one in English and another in French). The second film in French (in the back part of the museum)... More

These ruins are not your top draw like Orange so they tend to be much less crowded. The theatre has little left from the original and the villa ruins are mostly foundations. The little museum included in the price of a ticket to both sites is well done and features some very nice mosaics and a large collection of artifacts... More

About 8 euros to get and well worth it. The museum is excellent and the theatre is magnificent. There are two sites included in the price. Some information is in English. Helpful staff. Allow at least two hours.
