Had the chance to visit this location while passing through as I was on a business-trip. It's a very impressive location which speaks to the imagination of every visitor. The vast amounts of concrete are enormous. Deifinetly worth a visit if you are into WW2

The submarine base is a huge reinforced concrete structure. It was much bigger than I expected, and you are free to roam around most of it. If you go up on the roof you can see why the RAF had such a problem trying to...More

Husband was excited about the Tintin trail but we didn't expect the scale of this structure. Highly recommend that you take the time to wander around on the roof and appreciate how the town have taken this ugly structure to make something good and beautiful!

We were touring the UK and came across some memorial plaques in Falmouth harbor that had been donated by the people of France for a group of sailors and commandos who carried out a daring raid on some locks in the Nazi held port of...More

The submarine base is a huge reinforced concrete edifice, which seems to have survived pretty much by accident - it is only since the turn of the century that the town has started to develop the area for tourism. Bits of the base have now...More

The uboat pens are hard to miss as they somewhat dominate the town. Not all areas are accessible as some bays have been repurposed as a museum a venue and a gift shop. You can still get a sense of the scale and purpose of...More

This is somewhere I have wanted to visit for a long time as it is a well known base from WW2. The sheer scale is amazing and to know the pounding it took from allied bombs in WW2 and it still stands today. Quite a...More

Felt a bit disappointed with the pens, having visited many of the other major WW11 sites the construction of the pens is amazing but no U boat. The only submarine here is a French one from the 70's. I'm sure a lot more could be...More

For those who have read 'Das Boot', the novel about a German U-Boat, the submarine pens in Saint-Nazaire are a backdrop at the beginning and end of the novel. They are a massive memorial to war and include displays on the arrival of US forces...More

This was quite the u-boat repair facility endeavor by the Germans. It's bay after bay of repair facilities--worth walking the whole length. That French resisters attempted to blow it up is commendable and of course, doomed because of its immensity. Brings history alive. Well worth...More
