Before we all had mains water and washing machines we had to find ways to wash our clothes. In Laval there were several of these floating wash houses along the river, and this is the last one left. We were able to park near to it (free) and then walk to this floating museum (also free). The displays were all in French but a member of staff explained what we needed to know in English.

During our visit (July 2024) this must-see place of Laval is closed to visitors "for security reasons", so only visually and imaginatively! Already its location on a bank of Mayenne well accessible and beautiful promenade, , this boat wash knows how to transpose us to the old with its workers coming to wash linen and fabrics formerly, beautiful pots and wiper system visible from the shore, machinery on display on the sheltered deck.
