We had Dave as our jet boat driver and knowledgeable guide. After getting us kitted up with life-jackets and going through the safety info we were off up the river. The river was quite high after all the recent rain and the cliffs were laced with many waterfalls. After an hour or so we reached the Mangaparua Landing and walked... More

Hi There Linda Good to hear that you enjoyed your tour with Dave. Hes a great tour guide and we are lucky to have him! He is known as "Donut Dave"! The river is really magical with all the waterfalls after it has been raining! It has so many moods that the river can be quite different from one visit... More

Getting to the Bridge to Nowhere can be done in 2 ways. By canoe/kayak down the Whanganui river or via jet boat up the river. In case you take the first option, visiting the bridge is a must-do on your trip. The bridge itself is about a 40 minute walk off the boat landing and leads you through some rugged... More

Pretty amazing what was achieved in building the Bridge, no diggers, bulldozers or cranes just determination. Glad you appreciated the history of the area! Thanks for taking the time to write a review! Mandy :) More

Fantastic ride through some incredible NZ backcountry. We had perfect weather and the track was in great condition, I imagine it would be a much tougher ride in the wet! The jet boat ride out with Dave was awesome, a great guy who explained some of the history of the area on the way down and was very helpful. Bridge... More

We took the full day jet boat tour up to the Bridge to Nowhere trailhead and took it back to partway down the river and canoed back to Pipiriki, which we would totally recommend! Canoeing at the end makes it more of a special experience. This was the only tour that we saw that had the combined jet boat/canoe tour.... More

Thanks for your review. Yes canoeing the river is amazing brings a whole different perspective to the area. Not sure what food was provided for you as we don't generally do picnics unless you are staying at the Lodge! We have had many comments about how generous our picnics are for $ 15. Sandwiches, fruit, chippies, home baking muffins etc.... More

We arrived early at the Pipiriki meeting place for the jetboat tour up the Whanganui River. Dave (our captain) arrived at about 10.30am already having done a trip up the river. They are busy people!! After having been issued with life jackets we all trapsed down the hill to the river. Once aboard, and having had the safety talk, we... More

We stayed here as an alternative to the DOC hut while doing the 3 day Whanganui River canoe trip. The campsite was terrific, Darryl met us with his quad bike and trailer to take our barrels to the cabin. There was a hot shower, the cabin had plenty of space and a great view over the river. The camp kitchen... More

What a great way to spend a day out if you are a "local" or an awesome insight to the back country NZ lifestyle if you are from out of town. We had Shane as a driver, he was fun, relaxed and informative. This is so much better than the shotover jets in Queenstown. Just a great day out

Thanks for your review! Good to hear that you had a great day out and the Shane is doing his job well. I am always so pleased to hear that a "local" has been up the river. So many people from the Ruapehu region and Wanganui have never been up the river and don't realise what an amazing jewel we... More

Arrived in the rain and it rained all day but apart from looking like a drowned rat it was the most wonderful day, We were well looked after by our amazing driver and guide Shane, the trip on the jet boat to the bridge was great, and the lovely walk in the bush to see the bridge was well worth... My wife and I combined the Jet Boat from Pipiriki, forty minute bush walk (each way) to the bridge, ninety minute canoe trip downriver to the Lodge (where we spent the night), and a four hour canoe trip back to Pipiriki the next day. The river was beautiful, and the boat ride was fun and informative. Nothing special about the... More

Hi Curtis thanks for your lovely review. Glad that you enjoyed your time up the river with us. The canoeing is pretty special isn't it. Even on a reasonably busy day you can still often feel as if you are alone in the world when you are paddling down the river. So many places to stop and explore, have a... More

We did the 1 hour jet boat trip to the Bridge to Nowhere, and return. What a brilliant day! An exciting and fascinating jetboat trip up the majestic wilderness of the Wanganui River, followed by a short but beautiful walk through native bush to the historic bridge. The guides were laid back and very friendly, looked after us and even... More
