Very interesting place.

This is a very old wooden bridge over 800 years old and still the same old wood! Unfortunately the road to the is very bad. It is only 16km frm Town, but it take by car 35min.

Bogoda bridge and the Buddhist temple is situated at Hali-Ela in Badulla district. The main attraction here is the old wooden bridge which belongs to the Dambadeniya Kingdom Era (1220–1354 AD). This bridge is constructed to cross the Loggal Oya and it was on the old Badulla - Kandy road which had been used in the period of Kandyan Kingdom.... More

This ancient bridge said to be about 500 years old is the oldest bridge in Sri Lanka, made entirely of wood. The use of the motorable road is not said to be encouraged by the resident monks of the adjoining temple as it ends in their premises and they do not want vehicles to be parked there. A selfish attitude... More

Bogoda bridge is hard to access. You need to travel a fair distance from the Hali Ela town and the road is in terrible condition especially for the last few kilometers. Most vehicles park and take a tuk tuk for the last few kilometers but the tuk tuk drivers rip you off and charge exorbitant rates. Thankfully our van driver... More

The caretaker is local who has extensive & fascinating knowledge about the temple and the bridge. Ask you guide to come along with you. trust me the information is worth paying for a guide. Cars cannot travel but vans and jeeps can travel effortlessly.

This is a covered wooden bridge built in the 16th century during the Kandyan period and was on the road from Badulla to Kandy. Tha adjoining temple dates back even further. Access is not easy. I tried to get there last November but wet weather and road works prevented it. This time not so bad,but had to get a tuk... More

It's a marvellous creation. Very artistic. Craftmanship is unbelievable. Replica of the same bridge can be seen in Mawanella, just after the Railway level crossing in Public works departement road side museum. Bogoda temple is snother hiding place of one of our greatest kings, Valagambahu who was organizing army to fight against invading South Indians. After winning the war he... More
