This is a unique building in Volterra that is sort of unassuming and low -key...but it is nice to stop-in and reflect and take-in some quiet time. The façade is a little different, with the mixed finishes and alternating stripes.

There was no signs on the door telling us what the building was, so we dropped in really by chance. The fountain inside was very beautiful. The room is hexagonally shaped, which I think was very charming. The cathedral turned out to be closed for renovation...More

This baptistry goes back to 989 AD. Very old but in good condition. Stop in an visit...it will not take very long. Walk around the building and see the great view behind the building.

This Baptistery compared to the other ones found in the region of Tuscany is small and simple, but the inside of it is really amazing and a must see once you are in Volterra.

If you are not a history buff, simple comparison will do - Pisa's counterpart is simply much more impressive.

This ancient building stands alongside the town duomo that itself has been absorbed into the street architecture. Quite plain outside and in, it is no less interesting and shows the long history of Voltera in its medieval architecture. Worth popping your head inside.
