We went by ourselves with an audio guide & not on a tour which was better because you can take your time . The tunnels stretch about 6km apparently but we could only go the short distance . There is some Etruscan History down in...More

The tunnels have a short, audio guided tour (20-25 min). It's different than many historic sites, with much of it requiring imagination of the events described. But if you are going to Viterbo in the summer, it offers a cool break from the afternoon heat,...More

The names of the underground are intriguing as well as the square it is found in. I did the recorded tour which was worth it because I could go at my pace, which was quick. There is not much to see underground, but a few...More

The tour is brief, but packs a surprising amount of information about medieval history, history of Viterbo and the region. A bonus is a small gift shop filled with local delicacies and unique jewelry that is made after ancient Etruscan jewelry patterns. Enjoyed immensely, thanks!

Viterbo Sotterranea is a network of tunnels under the city. It is still open to debate as whether or not the Etruscans started the tunnels, some scholars believe they were for collecting water. While the tour only covers 120 metres, the network of tunnels are...More

The "guided" tour was definitely interesting and I certainly love to see and hear about Viterbo's underground history but it did leave you wanting much much more. It was a bit short for me to say it's a must see in Viterbo.
