What an amazing find! It is so quaint, uncrowded and true Italy. As it was technically off season at just the beginning of May it was uncrowded and certainly not filled with tourist. We felt we got to experience a city as the Italians do....More

Stopped over on the way to Sicily to rest. Everything is within walking distance and view of the sea excellent in the morning sun. Very friendly locals and if you are not from Italy you will get by easily.

Lovely old town on coast with plenty of restaurants and pedestrian areas. Good views from cliff (end of main street) down onto the beaches and church on it's rocky outcrop. Popular more with Italians and Germans, but we found most restaurants had English menus too....More

We stopped over here on our way back from Sicily. There are lots of sidewalk restaurants & cafes to pass the time in & even a couple of higher end restaurants. Unfortunately the town is fairly rundown so an overnight stay is all I would...More

My favorite activity is watching other peoples reaction to all the beauty around them. Watching and photographing others and what they see and moves them to take a pic

Situated on high cliffs, Tropea is a Town which focuses on tourism, in a big way. Like many southern Italian towns, the economic wealth has diminished over the years. Aside from the town and the great beaches, there is not much to do in terms...More

Went on a great journey via trains and ferry from Patti, Sicily thru to Tropea, Calabria and it was well worth it. The centre of Tropea has many quaint shops and plentiful number of restaurants. Then the beach !!!.... Unbelievable blue waters and very clean....More

Beautiful little town. Amazing restaurants. Beautiful beach and views, best gelatos. This does seem like a hot spot for Italians so not many people spoke English but we managed somehow. Would definitely recommend.

I'm a woman, travelling alone. Yesterday I visited Tropea and I find it perfectly safe. No refugees in sight.

Yes, I agree. May is very nice in Tropea, so I would at least plan for the end of April (or May if you can). April things like the beach will still be closed and some stores will not yet be open. The weather won't be cold... More
