Definitely one of the most visited places in Sulmona. Very large square where civil and religious events often take place. There is a beautiful fountain in the center and it is surrounded by very beautiful buildings. One side of this square houses the remains of a Roman aqueduct.

They hold market days here on Wednesdays and Saturdays and the whole Piazza is filled with stalls. Great place to visit.

Piazza Garibaldi is a huge piazza with many wonderful things running around its perimeter, the following is a small sample of what can be found -
Mediaeval aqueduct, built in 1256, it has 21 arches and is 100 metres long.
Fontana del Vecchio, built 1474. It is said perhaps the fountain depicts Solimo, the founder of Sulmona.
Chiesa di San Filippo Neri, built 17th century with a 1315 Gothic façade. The original façade was left incomplete and the Gothic facade belonged to Sant’Agostino built 1315, the church was damaged in an earthquake in 1706 and in the 1880’s it was decided to save the façade and transfer it to Chiesa di San Filippo Neri before it collapsed.
Chiesa di San Rocco built 15th century.
Santa Chiara Church and Monastery, built 1260. The church as it looks now was rebuilt in 1711 after an earthquake in 1706. The Clarisse nuns at the monastery by the 15th century were the primary confectionery makers in Sulmona. The confetti, (sugar coated almonds), which Sulmona is renowned for, may have been thanks to the nuns, as they were responsible for making confetti into an art form, making confetti rosaries, flowers, fruit etc.
Fontana di Piazza Garibaldi built 1823.
Chiesa di San Francesco della Scarpa “Rotonda”, has steps leading to a gate with six columns and five pillars forming an arch and above the arch is a 16th century fresco.
Gelateria la Rotonda, sells the best gelato.
Have great memories of joining the locals sitting on the steps near the Rotonda, eating gelato from Gelateria la Rotonda and looking across Piazza Garibaldi with snow capped mountains in the background, (we were there in May). For a slight change of scenery, grab a different flavoured gelato, (always difficult knowing which flavour to get and you can never have too much) and sit on the steps near the aqueduct, those mountains never get boring.

This is a beautiful town square. As others have mentioned, On Wed and Sat there is a large market. This is a great place to meet up as it's easy to find. There are shops and restaurants on the perimeter. The Aqueduct is in this area.

Wonderful site, nice walk, outstanding views and the aqueduct. Really nice views of the mountain behind the piazza. Try to be there on market days. The shopping mall comes to town on those days. You need to try a roasted pork sandwich!

The Piazza is just lovely with the remnant facade of a earthquake torn church and an ancient aqueduct. Go at sunset for optimal effect!

Piazza Garibaldi was a large square with a fountain in the middle that looked great at night. A few bars around the perimeter to enjoy a drink and admire the view. Also allowed a lot of stalls for the weekly market

During our stay in Sulmona there was a series of concerts being held in Piazza Garibaldi. It was wonderful as the music carried through the town.
The piazza also has a fish monger open during the day (we visited) and restaurants etc...
The market was held on the bridge but we would have loved to have been able to enjoy the market in this beautiful piazza.

From vegetables to cheese to meat to fish to clothes to hardware, you'll find almost everything you need on Saturday. And on a clear day you get a great view of the snow-covered Apennines.

Piazza Garibaldi, which still hosts the market and the main events, is the hub of Sulmona, the place that manages to embody the true spirit of the city that combines tradition and progress. Its space, in addition to hosting important historical testimonies, such as the Fontanone, the medieval aqueduct and the church of San Filippo Neri, offers a beautiful view of the mountains of Majella and Morrone.
