Beautiful to live all the day. You can go through the path of the mountain and arrive to a fantastic view from the mountain on the lake (starting from the hotel Roma, 45 minutes no more). Try! And then finish your travel down, on the bank of the lake, very nice and relaxing place, big sun but not so “strong”. Enjoy.

Beautiful lake and many pleasant hiking route. Only a bit over an hour drive out of Rome and you are in a valley with great view. The road to the lake from the highway is very curvy and narrow and the local or visitor to the area seems to drive too fast for the road. Near by town is Scanno which is an old town with many 900 yrs building still remain.

This region of Italy is blessed with beautiful lakes and mountains. The Lago di Scanno is one of them. This is a lovely area to enjoy in all seasons. In the winter, skiing is available nearby and in the summer you can enjoy the lake or hike. The town of Scanno is very pretty, as are the other small towns that dot this mountainous area. Fresh air and great scenery - perfect for a vacation!

The lake is not necessarily worth the visit but the old city is spectacular. The trip to get to Scanno must be considered like part of the travel experience to enjoy the mountains and countryside.

Well, maybe too many other people also thought it was a nice place. We are in the middle of a National Park 200 kilometers from Rome, and still many people

Lake Scanno is almost perfect, it is small enough to walk/cycle around, it has level areas where you can swim in the albeit very cold water, there are bars with fantastic views, not too many people, the chance to walk in the beautiful mountains around, and the small but relatively busy town of Scanno only a shortish walk away. First thing in the morning when it is totally empty or later in the day when the sun sets behind the peaks it can be seen at its best.

We travelled here from Manoppello, so it took a little while. We were told that it was the most beautiful place, and while it was nice I was not blown away. It was nestled in amonst the mountains and we fortunately went there out of season, otherwise I think it would be very busy with Italians. There are boats and bikes to hire and a few photo opportunities. The most interesting thing was how they had espalied the trees around the lake at the bar! They were made into arches- facinating.
If you decide to have a hot chocolate at the bar, you will find it to be more like a intense chocolate solid pudding rather than hot chocolate as english understand it. Have it as a pudding for a change.
The drive was interesting to get here as the scenery is pretty as is most of the Abruzzo.

his is one of those hidden gems in Italy. Only 2 hours east of Rome. The road into Scanno is spectacular, going through some very deep gorges. The lake is not large, but there is very little development. Great place for families. One of the best things is that there are hardly any foreign tourists, which means that you have a very genuine Italian experience where nothing is rushed, the people are relaxed and the food and drink prices are excellent value.

Lago di Scanno is a truly beautiful lake. It is a lovely shade of bright blue-green that shimmers in the sunlight. There are boats you can rent seasonally, and along certain parts of the lake are vendors that sell snacks and trinkets. There's a unique little church that overlooks the lake - it is built right into the rockface. We highly suggest you visit this little gem! We were there when the season was winding down so there weren't any crowds. It was so peaceful. The town of Scanno is up the hill and offers a few restaurants and very pretty scenery.

Nice but nothing special. It is a pretty mountain lake, not very large, with amenities on both sides
