Formerly called Piazza Granda and then Piazza Benacense, this piazza is the heart of both the old and modern town. It is the location for the Office of the Podestà and the Town Hall, the Torre Apponale a several houses of the nobility. The arcades dating back to the period of Scaligera rule, which close off the piazza towards the harbour and the lake, used to house the markets and shops.

Glad we did this, the views from the top are amazing, loads of wooden stairs to go up obviously, but well worth the effort.

Lots of tourists , but lots of cafes to sit and people watch. Even though there was a timetable for the ferries, it did not seem to be being followed . I may just have caught a bad day.

Great location as there was something going on every night we stayed in September. Great buskers and one or two great bars to people watch from.

The piazza is the main square in Riva - the boats come in here and there are so many cafes to sit, watch the world go by and admire the beautiful scenery.

Lovely part of lake garda. The breeze off the lake made the got weather bearable. The colour of the water was magical. The steep mountains climbing straight up from the lake-everything about this town was just great.

Plenty of restaurants are dotted around the square, great for having dinner or a drink whilst enjoying the view of the lake or the Torre Apponale. It's the hot spot of Riva and whilst we were there for our evening walk, a entertainer was performing,...More

One of the most beautiful views you'll ever see which can be enjoyed in the sunshine with a local spritz drink and then in the evening while local talent play their music. Perfect!
