We enjoyed our walk through town up to the hill where this church is situated. If you arrive by boat you can't miss it as it has a very prominent spot. The inside is very interesting - a bit stark but what you would expect considering the age of the church. Great views of the water from the exterior and don't miss a stop at the Gulf of Poets as you leave to head back toward the harbor and the town

We spent a lot of time taking in the architecture, design and the views. Plan on about an hour to navigate the stone walk and steps and take in all there is to experience. For photographers there are many opportunities for point-of-view shots of the landscape, shoreline, still life and such.

One of the main sites in Portovenere, off to the side of the port. Beautiful views of the ocean. The church itself is pretty plain but still well worth the trek uphill. No steps and not steep so it is accessible

From the ferry boat docks we walked through the streets to San Pietro Church which is nice. Climb to the top for photos and don’t miss the nearby arch with access to Byron’s Grotto. Swimmers seemed crazy due to rough water but we had a picnic lunch and watched folks taking pictures with waves crashing over them.

The church is just a short walk from the center of Porto Venere and is just so beautifully positioned at the end of the peninsula. It stands out even more if you are on a boat passing by. We took some beautiful pictures from the sea returning from Cinque Terre.
We saw a wedding there and the photographer was guaranteed amazing shots on that beautiful sunny day.
I must have seen hundreds of churches in my lifetime....all different, all beautiful...

Nice spot but dirty and smelly.
I really wonder what is going on in Italy.
It's so superdirty and people are so rude.
Last time maybe for me ...

One of the most suggestive places I have ever been.
I can't imagine how stunning it may look like for whoever comes here and visit it for the first time.
Proud of living here!

Really a lovely little church, slight uphill walk to get there but not bad. A wedding was taking place when we first arrived so church was closed to visitors but once wedding party left we were able to go in and enjoy the beauty of the interior and views of the bay. Worth the walk up!

Words cannot describe how peaceful and beautiful is this church sitting on the pizazza and protected by fortress walls. Inside you will find a seaside church with candles burning. The religious statues and artwork are stunning. I visited this church many times during my stay in Portovenere. You can also peek outside the church windows to see the wave-tossed sea.
