We hiked down into this picturesque town flanked by a fortress wall and the sea. It is small enough to wander without getting lost. We ferried over to the nearby island for a lovely hike through a forest; magnificent views up the coast added to the pleasure.

We have stayed here on 3 occasions - beautiful little place, Best time is September when the schools are back but weather still warm. Not as crowded as the CT towns nor as touristy as Portofino. Watch as the fishing boats pull in with your dinner as you sit by the marina. Explore the narrow shady lanes and feel the... More

Lovely place, we thought it would be quieter, but it's on the main route for Cinque terre and the droves of tourists are hilarious! More expensive than we expected....if you eat cheaply you will get poor meals.

Portovenere was beautiful. Wonderful place to relax. Little bars on the wharf are very welcoming. Great shopping on the narrow streets...friendly people. What could be better?

Just south of La Spezia and Cinque Terre is this beautiful port town ...Fun restaurants and shops, a very nice church. And great vistas. A simple bus ride from the center of la Spezia. Worth the trip.

There is actually more to do and see here than in the Cinque Terre, despite whatever Rick Steves tells you. I love Rick's advice, and like most folks, probably owe my awareness of this region to him, but Portovenere is comparatively unsung in his book. Locals will tell you the same, confidentially, and even other visitors have agreed with that... More

Our first stop on our coach tour from Milan is the little town of Porto Venere which along with the other Cinque Terre villages obtained UNESCO World Heritage listing in 1997. The views across the bay to the islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto are calming. Porto Venere is a bit cosmopolitan but has a gentle village ambience and would... More

My favorite of all of Cinque Terra, not as crowded. The water is so clean and blue. It's best to ferry to Portovenere.

Quick bus ride from La Spezia €5 return ticket to a marvellous little town with picturesque views across the bay and along the 5 terre coast. Full of narrow pathways with historic churches and fortresses.

We arrived here via the La Spezia ferry boat. The seaward approach provides a visually stunning introduction to this amazing place just South of the Cinque Terre.
