this is by far the best place to stay in visiting Cinque Terre - lots of wonderful restaurants - great gelato - easy for an evening stroll. Take the ferry to the villages - far easier than heading to the train in La Speiza.

Portovenere is a beautiful town looking to the sea, nice Mediterranean architecture, lots of people but not crowded, full of young beautiful people, I think could be a nice place to spend some 3 to 5 days and visit the Cinque Terre area.

Incredible views and excellent food all around. Porto Venere is actually nicer than the cities that compose the Cinque Terre. If you want to visit the 5 terre then visiting Porto Venere is a must, and vice versa.

We wanted to see Cinqua Tere and stayed in Portovenere on the recommendation of a friend who said that it would be less crowded and easier to get to and from then its immediate neighbors, the five proper towns of Cinque Terre. The town was as our friend advertised. Scenic, spectacular waterfront, tons of restaurants, interesting twisty side streets and... More

Small town, don't need a lot of time to explore, but a great day trip to just meander and site see. Great photo opps and good little cafes most with views of the harbour.

its difficult to find a place with sea and mountain together but here you can see both. I was there for 7 days and I think those days didnt count in my life because I was free without any disturbance

Spent a couple of days here & really enjoyed the quiet, laid-back feel of the place - ignoring the regular ferry loads of people on Cinque a Terra day trips passing through. Many people have left by this time of the year so easy to get around but still had some lovely warm weather. Close enough for easy day trips... More

We stayed in Portovenere for eight days. Just relaxing, enjoying the location, and ferrying several day up to CinqueTerre. The weather was glorious, the people generous and friendly, the accommodations very comfortable. We took a boat trip to and around Palmyra Island and walked to the edge of La Spezia; saw the ancient church of San Pietro; hiked to Castle... More

Really enjoyed visiting here. It provides a nice break from the huge amounts of people visiting the the Cinque Terre - it almost feels like ur own! We were staying in La Spezia and visited this town by boat. Just as beautiful as the Cinque Terre. Lovely bars and restaurants in the little harbour provide a relaxing option as you... More

This was a stop on my recent cruise. Many of the people on the ship were rushing to get to Chinqua terra however I really think they "missed the boat" if they did not spend a little time in this beautiful town. They have ancient walls and castles and churches that really must be seen. Plus the local restaurants and... More
