The Beautiful church sits at the bottom of a small alleyway just north of our Villa at the Palazzo Misciattelli in Orvieto. The first night of our visit we were able to capture the sun glinting off of the beautiful front. We visited the inside a few days later and were impressed by the detail and the elegance of the Duomo.

I don't know much about what I saw but it wouldn't encourage me to join the church! Well worth seeing from an artistic perspective and a memory which will live with me (for better or worse) for some time.

Orvieto's Duomo is already stunning enough and then on a side chapel inside the intensity goes up a notch, with every bit of the chapel covered in work by Renaissance masters from Fra Angelico to Signorelli. You have to see the Cappella di San Brizio if Renaissance art is your thing, the storytelling is greatly served by the technical artistry of its painters. You can almost follow the entire Doomsday story page by page on the walls without needing to know any language.

Both the inside and outside of this building are not to be missed. The gorgeous frescos and facade of the building are my favorite part of Orvieto and are absolute show stoppers!

If your main interest is Renaissance art, this chapel in the main reason to come to Orvieto. The medieval history is important, a major strategic holding of the popes; but Signorelli’s art ( a little of Beato Angelico and of Gozzoli too) was a major influence on Michelangelo.

The paintings on the inside are mind blowing. This is a must see in my mind, it's worth going out of the way to see.

Hard to believe we were gazing at the same frescos that inspired Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel. Amazing!

You may keep the Sistine. Give me Signorelli (and fra Angelico). The high renaissance at its very highest. Extraordinary.

Phenomenally beautiful chapel inside the Duomo of Orvieto. Get a small guide (free at the entrance) to explain some of the art. Look for the artist in the paintings!
