    Nice tour but overrated
The tour is well arranged and the guide was great, the site is well maintained - very good points, it is also refreshing etc. However, it is simply the basements of people from the middle age who dug into the soft ground because they needed more working area. It has small importance in my eyes. but if you are at beautiful Orvieto do it as add-on.

    Historically significant cave tour
This was an unexpected pleasure in Orvieto. Our guide took us through the cave to show us the historic significance of the caves to ancient life in Orvieto. The pigeon raising tradition originated in the caves. I highly recommend this tour.

    A must see in Orvieto
Truly enjoyed the Orvieto underground tour. Our tour guide Kristina was enthusiastic and brilliant at explaining the history of the place. The view from the entrance was also stunning. A must to visit in Orvieto.

    Worthwhile
Our tour guide was well informed about the underground and shared important details in a well paced tour. Our group however was a bit large so you didn’t always hear what she had to say. Warning also for those who don’t handle stairs easily, there is a fair amount of walking and climbing. Great introduction though to the caves of Orvieto and Etruscan/ Roman life.

History buffs will love this tour!
We took the 3:15 tour in English - tickets are purchased at the Tourist Info office, across the street from the Duomo. (Not the office for tickets to the Duomo, the one next door). From your gathering spot outside the ticket office, the tour guide will lead you to the locked entrance. The views to the south are beautiful. You can take photos once underground, but no videos. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed learning more about the Etruscans and Romans

You learn a lot about the town and its history on this tour, including how the town survived WWII and how the underground was used to store things long ago. You don’t actually walk through a lot of the underground but though to experience it

It was a nice short trip, we spent just one night in this town. We didn't see the underground because tickets had to be reserved in advance.
Overall it was OK. Several ancient sites, including the impressive cathedral. I wondered why there were Stars of David (Jewish symbol) on the ground in the front, but there were mythological statues too. There are many historic small cities in Tuscany that resemble Orvieto.

Christiana was an exceptional tour guide and I learned lots of interesting things. She was very engaging and helped us understand the amazing world of the Etruscan tunnels and caves. I would highly recommend this tour.

Who knew there were all these underground caves under Orvieto? Especially interesting were the pigeon caves where they kept birds to eventually eat. Note there are quite a few steps to go up and down.

We did the underground walking tour and found it very enlightening and it told of the life and experiences living in those eras.
Some areas are a bit tight and you need to be able to walking well. We’ll worth the trip. The guide was excellent.
