Spending a few days in the area, we found our way to the winery, got our first taste of this wonderful red wine. We bought a few bottles which were finished before we left Tuscany. Superb. We learned how to pronounce the whole name the right way: Vino Nobile de Montepulciano. I now buy this Tuscan red at my California... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our private wine tour by our knowledgable guide who taught us a lot about wine. We also enjoyed lots of wine tasting afterwards accompanied by bread and olive oil with truffles and pecorino cheese. Got a bit tipsy and enjoyed myself thoroughly.

There's a free tour where you can roam their underground cellars and tunnels (which is fascinating enough) and then free wine, cheese and salami tastings. There's no pressure to buy - the tour is great and the wine and food are excellent. A very worthwhile stop in Montepulciano

We were visiting Montepulciano the second time. The city is marvelous and even the tourist crowds can not spoil the great impression. There are lots of souvenir shops, vine shops and both in one. Don't concentrate on the vine tasting at Cantina Citta Sotterranea Ercolani. It is an attraction. Just enjoy it. You can enter the underground tunnels and cellars,... More

We were drawn into the shop by staff asking if we wanted to tour the underground cellars. Pretty awesome, tunnels and cellars under 7 different buildings. Huge wine barrels, very interesting. At street level the shop has all the goodies you come to Italy to eat. Wine tasting done very well.

We enjoyed an August afternoon in Montepulciano. We were greeted with a great host and he walked us through the small caves. We received a mini history lesson and listened to the various wines they had to offer. The tastings were free and the the cheese and sausage combinations were outstanding. The truffles and cheese spread was excellent. We spent... More

Look the two of us came on a rainy Thursday afternoon with almost no tourist traffic. Therefore our experience was exemplary for folks who are not interested in some verbose guided tour and wine sellers with a chip on their shoulder. The caves were immensely interesting with gigantic barrels of wine (Nobile di Montelpuciano) and olive oil. Some areas of... More

While it's true most places charge for tastings (as in California and Oregon) one tends to get what one pays for. Most enotecas in Montepulciano offer a selection of wines from different wineries but here you can only taste wines made by Ercolani. You will also be encouraged to buy more and "save" a few euros per bottle. These wines... More

Young lady took us on the underground tour which has a lot of history and a lot of wine laying in large oak barrels .... More
