Renaissance Gem

This "temple" by Sangallo is a wonderful example of the ideal Renaissance domed church - a small scale realisation of Bramante's original idea for St Peter's.

Outside the walls of Montepulciano is this beautiful renaissance Greek cross central plan church located. The central dome is supported by a drum. The side opposite to the entrance has a semi-circular apse. The façade is flanked by the multi floor bell tower, with numerous decorative elements, which ends in a pyramidal cusp. The design included two symmetrical towers, but... More

This is a unique temple on the edge of Montepulciano Italy. It is located down a tree lined road that can be reached off the road south of Montepulciano toward St Albino.

it is actually closed at the moment for restoration, so although the walk was pleasant to get there it was not possible to go in. shame. I liked the cemetary which was further up the hill surrounded by poplar trees

Set at the bottom of the hill, the elegant silhouette of San Biagio claims your attention. So we strolled down from the centro historico to the Tempio and were impressed by the quiet beauty of the sanctuary. Not surprisingly, it was a place of devotion for the first Christians long before the actual church was built.

A must see when in Montepulciano. This church is famously featured on many calendars and photo books as one of the great works of architecture. .

Did a visit to the Tempio as an accidental aside to our restaurant luncheon at La Grotta just across the street. Enjoyed the visit a lot and liked the QR codes assist on the visit. High tech for sure.

This is a beautiful church just below Montepulciano. It can be seen from the road when you aproach the town, its too far to walk especially in summer so drive down and you can park right otside. The Church is in fantastic condition with large grounds.

The church is beautiful and I agree with another reviewer in that it is quiet and very spiritual. The history of the temple is interesting and is worth a trip there. The town has done a good job with providing enough information inside the church. Bring your iPhone and install a QR scanner. Don't attempt to walk from the town,... More

This church is a must see when traveling through the area. It is beautifully preserved and positioned. Not loaded with tourists, feels very personal and spiritual.
