We found this attraction by Google of places of interest in Montecatini. What a fabulous find. Anna our guide was so informative and knowledgeable. She spoke in both Italian and English, fluently.
It's situated in a lovely location with a fab cafe too. Highly recommended

A great experience. The tour takes less the an hour and it's a lot cooler inside the caves than outside. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the caves.

These cool caves are a geological gem and a good way to fill a few hours in Monticatini, particularly on a hot day. They are not well publicised but don't be put off by that. We went on a Sunday morning about 10.30am and were given a tour lasting just under one hour for just the two of us. Entry was 10 euro each (2023). The caves and pretty grounds are well worth the 25 minute walk up the hill to get there although not really easy to find if using sat nav, as the entrance is about 200m to the left beyond the top of the road . Our guide Anna was very friendly, attentive, safety conscious and informative. She went out of her way to try and find some salamanders after I pointed out that I find them fun, which was a bonus. She pointed out some beautiful crystal features and all the different stalagtite and stalagmite formations - I had no idea they came in all sorts of shapes including some that look like broccoli! The hard hats that are provided are a must and the caves can be a little wet inside, so wear footwear with a good grip . The caves are not suitable for someone in a wheelchair, with limited mobility or who has severe vertigo. Buy the tickets for the cave tour from the lovely on-site restaurant where you can get reasonably priced drinks and food afterwards.

We went on a very hot day so it was lovely being in the cool of the caves. Anna was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable and the hour tour went very quickly. Lovely cafe and clean toilets.

Had a lovely visit to the caves. Really enjoyed learning about the geology and their history. Anna was the perfect guide and made us feel really welcome. Easy to find, plenty of space to park and a great relaxing atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.

Would be nice if the cave was open during opening hours, or at least if there was a notice why it is closed. We (and 2 other families) stood in front of the gate for about 40 minutes and nothing happened.

What a lovely place to visit. The staff are really friendly and helpful. Anna the guide was so enthusiastic and explained all the features of the cave really well and made it interesting. It’s a good walk from Montecatini Terme but there is a bus if you don’t fancy it.

An absolutely amazing experience! The grottoes are beautiful, strange and breathtaking - like nothing else you will usually see in Toscana! It’s lit very beautifully so it’s easy to see the stalagmites and it feels safe - not at all scary or unpleasant, but one still feels the strange magic of this hidden world under ground. The guide, Anna, was extremely knowledgeable and spoke perfect english and gave us a great tour. She told us both about the incredible age of the site, the geology, the animals and about the story of this place during the wars. Everyone in our family, both children and adults, agreed that this was one of the best excursions we have had during our holiday. Also it was a great break from the sun and heat - the grotto is a pleasant, cool 15 degrees. We have been to Montecatini-Terme several times but never went to the grotto before. There are no signs advertising it, so it’s a bit of a well kept secret. The gps had a bit of trouble finding it, but we went a little further up the road and easily found the gate saying “Grotto Maona” in big letters. There a big area for parking under the shady trees outside and a lovely bit of park around it, for taking a stroll before sitting down at the restaurant for a coffee and snack.

Just got back home from a very nice two week holiday in Venice and Tuscany. And I need to highlight our visit to Grotta Maona. Actually we had a hard time finding the place, since google and tripadvisor didnt show the right placements, and one place said it was closed. But we luckily found it and had the greatest experience!
(Attached to this review is a map trying to specify where they are)
We were the only two persons to show up for the tour (they try to make tours every half hour as people gather), but still Francesco gave us the tour and did everything he could to make our tour special! He told us this was his tour 7 or 8 of the day but that was not to see or feel. So friendly, professional, informative as one could wish for and although I have seen bigger caves in Europe this tour was sooo great mainly because of all the information Francesco gave us. A really must do in the area if you need an hour out of the sun (or the rain).
They also have a restaurant with a great and cheap menu. Several times a week they also arrange evening suppers with music (remember to book).
Entrance was 7€ to the cave, which was well worth the experience.
Anyone can do the tour and you can do it in flippers if you like, but I would recommend sneakers or alike due to a few slippery steps.
Huge carpark.
A MUST SEE AND DO! And a huge shout out to Francesco - such a great guide!
